UK Driving License -> NSW License
Thought I might just pass on this bit of news (though someone else may have done so already).
Whilst on a 457 I was able to drive using a UK driving license, but upon getting PR you have 90 days to get a local license.
The law used to be that in order to get a NSW license you had to sit a computer based driving knowledge test. The happy news is that this law has now been waived for UK driving license holders. You can now just present you license, pay your $39 and get a NSW license straight off.
Living in Sydney, I have found it endlessly tiresome to have to go out each Friday and Saturday night armed with my passport in order to prove to the door primates employed by many a hostelry that I am in fact over 18. The need to prove ID here extends further than that, and I'd advise anyone over on a 457 to think about getting a drivers license now its only a question of bowling up to your local RTA with a passport, license and bill.
