I am not entirely sure that is correct, I did try to get a club staff member to explain it to me but then she got very very confused. I was of course, 'very...very, drunk at the time!'

All I know is that a club membership card around here, is accepted at most of the other clubs in the area. My local Surf Club card gets me into all the other surf clubs, the RSL, some sports club, a few bowls clubs etc.
