Default Typical living costs Brisbane QLD

Can anybody please give us an idea of the following costs if we were to move to Brisbane? We are a family of 4 from the UK.

Weekly Shop.
Utilities Water Electricity Gas
Rates/Council tax (4 bed house).
Insurance Home Car
Car Tax
Cable/Satellite TV (Basic)
Phone
Broadband 2mb
Nursery (3-4yrs old)
Childcare per hour.

We are almost committed to moving but the current exchange rate and increase in cost of living is becoming a concern.

Hi.

Based on our experiences:

Weekly Shop - $120 (We shop frugally 2 adults and a 3 yr old)
Utilities Water Electricity Gas - $300-$400 per qrtr. (Water excluded as is included in rates -also depends on things like air-con etc)
Rates/Council tax (4 bed house) - $450 per qrtr.
Insurance Home Car - $650 per yr. (Car) & $1,200 per yr. (home - comprehensive contents and building cover)
Car Tax - $250 per 6 months
Cable/Satellite TV (Basic) - $62 per month.
Phone - $140 (bundled with 8MB broadband - iiNet - excluding calls) per month
Nursery (3-4yrs old) - $52 per day.
Childcare per hour - About the same as nursery is my guess?

Food 280 Family of 2A 2 teens
Rates were 2220 but valuation just went up 65% so will def increase!
Electricity just under 2000 per year with pool
Rego per vehicle about 500, insurances 400 - 500 each vehicle
Basic pay TV 56 month
Phone home 60 month, mobiles business plans about 50 capped but your locked in for 2 years.
Broadband 59 month optus are 15mb i think
Nursery nil school charges for 2 teens will be 1400 next year thats the free! state school,
No Childcare but you are missing one huge cost , medical costs and dental optical, scripts etc etc etc for you AND the children. We pay around 3000 a year private health but some years still outlay at least that again in out of pocket expenses, such as kid needs X ray, blood test, docs visits, prescriptrions... braces for eg start at 5000 upwards.

Petrols another killer for us, its cheap compared to UK at 145 L , but between us we use 4 tanks a week (distances are greater) .

Hope that helps.

Could be useful if you put your UK costs here. I am sure many of us, either being nosey or or just plain interested in what it costs to live in UK these days.

Thanks for all of your replies. Don't be afraid to post more as this will give us a good average to work from.
Our costs in the UK with two children (7&3) are:

Weekly Shop. $250 to $300 (Using Tesco and Aldi)
Utilities Water $50 month unmetered
Electricity/Gas $140 month we pay the same each month which means we build up a credit in the summer to take us through the high usage in winter months.
Rates/Council tax (3 bed house) $200 month.
Insurance Home $50 Car $50
Car Tax $30 ($360 yr)
Cable/Satellite TV (Basic) $40
Phone $20 rental $15 calls (many routed via the internet with Freecall to save money)
Broadband 2mb $30
Nursery (3-4yrs old) $16 2.5hrs or $38 9:15 to 15
Childcare per hour. $7

I have doubled the £ amounts to give you an idea of costs in dollars. All monthly unless otherwise indicated.

Useful info thanks.

From that your bills seem to be similar or slightly cheaper than ours. Not a huge variation overall. But taking into account the added medical and education expenses of australia, its probably costing us more to live here overall. Cant compare wages which would give a better picture as I think we might have been away too long.
