We are from Norway and when we buy electronics in the UK we just replace the thing you put into the socket (can't remember it's name) ... and we used the same thing in AUS last year. Then with a travel adaptor.

When we were in Australia in October we bought an Xbox game which works on the British version so that shouldn't be a problem. It's true that American ones don't work because we stopped off in America on the way back and were going to buy a game there too. I asked and was told that they don't work on British Xboxes.

Australia is PAL, so the TV pictures work OK on UK TVs
Australia uses a different frequency for TV sound broadcast - so UK TVs will not necessarily be able to pick up the sound from terrestrial TV broadcasts. Some manufacturers now make TVs to sell to the world market and they will work. Others don't and older TVs are much less likely.
To still use a TV where the sound will not work, an Australian set top box or satellite receiver will fix the problem, but if you just want terrestrial TV from an aerial, then you may have problems with sound.
The video is the same as the TV for its tuner - i.e. if you pick up terrestrial tv through the video to record, the picture will be fine but the sound may not be there - depends on the age of the recorder and who makes it. Playing back video will be fine.
Computers, Playstations, Xbox etc are fine. The only thing is the plugs.
DVDs in UK are Region 2 and Austrailia are Region 4. So you really need a multi-region DVD player. You can take your UK DVD player, but you will only be able to play UK DVDs on it.
In electronics, Australia is much the same as the UK and only a few things where there will be problems.
Just remember to take heaps of 4 way gang plug sockets for when you are there. Saw a post here the other day when someone said they had one in every room - what a good idea!!
