I watched this the other day. The bloke did seem to whinge about everything in Australia but he seemed to me to be someone who wouldn't be happy wherever he is. I can imagine them coming back to the UK and then him whinging about his job and the huge mortgage etc.

I can't believe he didn't get his licencing sorted out that would have meant he could have worked and earnt more money to help our his family.

I hope they can be happy.

Thanks very much for the whining child comment. Laura is 11 years old and the most mature, clever child you could ever wish to know. She is also my niece. Say what you like about my sister and brother in law, but leave the kids alone:mad:

How are they then? Are they still in Oz, or did they decide to come back to the UK in the end?

I must disagree with the whining child comment, I watched the whole show and don't remember her whining once? and from what I saw on the show - she seemed more level headed that her parents! She made some very mature comments and didn't seem phased about the prospect of moving at all. She seemed much more interested in her parents happiness than what the impact of being moved from what would now seem like her home in Oz. I imagine she has more memories of Oz than the UK based on her age.

They are fine thanks. Staying in OZ at the moment but i think they will come back to the UK in the near future. Craig might have come across as a real whinger but he is just unhappy. They are actually a happy couple who are struggling to agree on where they live. They don't really bicker all the time.
Laura is happy to live anywhere her family is. If she comes back to the uk then she is happy as all her family are here. She is very close to my children and i,and also mum who spends a lot of time.

Good stuff - lets hope it all works out for them, although clever editing or not, he did come across as a grade 'A' moaner.

Best of luck to the family in whatever / wherever they end up.

I agree, the wee girl was trying her best to keep them both happy and seemed very level headed. :)

Craig's unhappy is he? Awww bless him! Why doesn't he get off his fat arse and start earning a decent crust for his lovely family then? Life is what you make of it and all that guff!

He struck me as a very lazy, miserable basket, someone who placedfar too much emphasis on the fact that he used to work for BT during the telecomms boom and that he used to be a 'somebody'! Didn't we all!? The best he could get in Oz was fixing washing machines for $100 a week (correct me if I'm wrong)????????? Crikey, surely Maccas pay more than that????

It really upsets me when people make judgements on others when they have never lived their life or experienced their feelings. The guy was quite obviously unhappy. From a one hour programme how can anyone possibly know what these people have been through? They have lived in Oz for approximately 35,000 hours and yet are judged on approx 50 minutes of airtime which has been edited. People are condeming this family who are clearly going through hell. We don't know if he has tried other work or not. We don't really know an awful lot after just one short programme.

It must be just awful being in a place where you don't want to be and yet knowing that your partner loves it. My husband did nothing but moan about Australia while we were there because it simply hadn't lived up to his expectations and work was really difficult for him. Luckily I felt the same way so it didn't bother me.

We aren't all born with the ability to shrug off situations that we don't like. Everyone just assumes that because they are in sunny Oz they should be walking around with a permanent grin.

Personally I felt really sorry for the whole family and their situation and hope they can find happiness wherever that may be.

I for one can't wait to get to Melbourne next year

You seem to have the same belief that Alison and craig had before they went.
But for them and a lot of people it is not the dream.Especially when your family is so far away. You might be eating your words in a years time?
I hope it ends up offering you everything you think it will, but be also prepared that it might not. 70.000 people come back every year.
I wish you luck.PS Craig is not really miserable!. it was TV.

No it wasn't just TV. His wife said a few times that he always complains no matter where he is.

Did we hear right that they said they had thought about, applied and moved to Oz in 6 weeks?? I think it was at the beginning of the programme.

How did they do that????????? Everyone else seems to take forever!!

Why didn't / don't they try somewhere else in Oz - Tasmania for example which is supposedly more like England anyway? But then again, why move to Oz if you want the British weather?? We want the lovely sunshine!!!!

The presenter seemed more biased this week to the UK than she did last week when the family were in Cyprus. They decided to come back to the UK - again, mum and son were happy but dad was unhappy. Mum decided (after seeing a video of her mum saying she missed her etc) that she wanted to be nearer her family (who wouldn't feel guilty if their mum gave them a video of her being upset)!!!

where do you get 70,000 from? seems an awful lot to me, thats 200 per day, nearly a whole plane load. Are there some official figures for this or did some TV presenter drop these numbers in to the conversation? She even struggled with her mortgage figures.

i think the poor man was just unhappy. wouldnt we all have a winge if we were unhappy? for those that want to move to oz and then change their minds and come back, most of the time it is because they are unhappy i guess. the thing is unless you try it you will never know. they tried it and he didnt like it. i just felt sorry for him. he must have felt trapped knowing his wife loved it so much.
i was really up for going to oz, my partner who is australian says it isnt what people think, its not always as 'glamourous' as people make it out to be and after reading the coming back to the Uk forum articles, it has tempered my feelings. i think you need a balanced viewpoint and seeing everything through rose tinted glasses isnt really helpful.

the thing that i was most shocked about was the little girl, who appeared to really want to come back to the UK. i thought she would love to stay in oz, but then she had lots of family to love her over here and i guess that is missing for her out there.
whatever happens to them and anyone who is unhappy where ever they are i hope things can be worked through.
