Actually not embarrasing because some of the documentation out there can be contradictory on naming schemes. Countries (such as Australia) like to make their own variations to the standards they use.

I've stuck with an identification scheme which I think originated with the ITU. But the spec numbers are really what counts.

Australia uses 7 MHz for both VHF and UHF channels which, like you say , is not the same as in other countries. I've seen it referred to as PAL B in both bands, but sometimes it is refered to as PAL G in UHF evn though it's not 8 MHz.

So there's room to move on the naming.

Provided the receiver can receive VHF and UHF, and is not locked into set channel tunings for a particular country, those with a PAL B/G should work ok.

Probably a bit academic anyway because set top boxes are the future :)

Crikey - that was like sitting in on The International Congress on TV/DVD Technical Specifications. Think I understood some of it. Thanks for all your info guys. Karma all around.

I think we'll take both and see what happens. They're included in the shipping quote and we'd only just stick them up in the loft so we'll take them, get a top box and see what happens.

Cheers again

Matt
