I have read many times on this forum that it is not safe to allow kids out on their own in the UK because there is a 'perv' or other type of wierdo round every corner
Well a few minutes ago there was a loud bang on the door which sounded like a police raid or something similar. I ignored it as it is Halloween. A minute later there was an even louder knocking so I went outside to find a bunch of kids 'demanding money with menaces'.
There were four. The oldest about 11 and the youngest about 6!!!
I do not live on a busy street. I live on the edge of a small Derbyshire town at the top of a hill. It is dark up here and there are very few houses :scared:
I gave them 50p and told them to clear off.
Where are their parents?
What are they doing out in a dark lonely place?
Or maybe England is not as dangerous as many would have us believe.
Where are your kids at the moment????

Hi Grayling,
I don't like Halloween either and there is no way that I would let my kids go trick of treating at unknown houses. We have made a pumpkin face (I did want it for soup) and have had a couple of kids from our close come calling, all with a parent. My son is insulin dependent diabetic so we obviously don't take him trick or treating, he just waits with his costume and gives away the sweets, chocolate that he can't eat.
I would resent kids coming and expecting money, I give wrapped sweets only and can't believe that anyone would let a child as young as 6/7 out without an adult in the dark.
As you say where are the parents

Hi Kaz
I agree with you. When our kids were young I don't remember 'T or T' even existing!
Unfortunately when I drove home about 7.0pm there were several groups of kids about obviously up to the same game.
Luckily because we live at the top of the hill they do not bother us much but I know that some people may have half a dozen such groups calling over the evening.
I was told earlier by a publican that they have been threatened with a brick through the window in the past :scared: If they don't 'pay up'.
Best wishes

We've had about five or six groups of kids this evening so far - they range from tiny little 'uns with mum to early teens.
I agree that they should not be out alone and I certainly don't condone threatening behaviour (and let's face it - those kids would threaten you 365 days a year not just on Halloween).
But for every little so and so who threatens some form of 'trick' there are half a dozen little kids thrilled to put on a costume and be out after dark with their mum gathering a lifetime's supply of chocolate!
And what I don't give out - I get to eat....!

I hate Halloween! I grew up in the US, and back in the late eighties, trick or treating was fun! Now it seems like it just gives all the little thugs in training an excuse to go out and cause grief! The village chavs were out in full force tonight and this is supposedly a lovely sussex village! :scared: Now, where did I leave that pepper spray?....................

If their mum or an adult had been with them I would have not been bothered.
These kids were not even dressed up.

My husband has a really evil looking grim reaper costume with no face just a big black sheath short of thing. Anyway he answered the door tonight wearing it. The kids reactions were hilarious....especially the younger ones!

We have fortunately been out most of the evening so missed the darling little blighters. But last year we had some real sweethearts who were quite young. We even had a teenager with his little brother and sister who had also gone to the effort of dressing up. He was very polite and said no thanks to the offer of a lollipop. He was just chaperoning the littlies. I have no problem with these.
However, when we did get home we wandered out to the front of the house for a ciggie and I noticed a sweet little cat's ears headband on the lawn. Picked it up thinking 'Bless, someone will be upset'. Yes me! It was then that I saw an empty egg carton on the path just away from our front lawn and noticed the patch of egg above our front window. Bless??? I bet the little sod dropped the headband while leaning back to egg the house, someone yelled Oi! and she scarpered! That's my guess.
It's not even as if we were home and refused them a damn treat!

Also as I sit here, I have fireworks going off, over a month to go to the real day. Why do they sell them so early in UK, NZ it is 4/5 Nov only and in Aus in parts not at all.
I drove past a phone box the other night that plew up in front of me, the little sod had stuffed it full of fireworks and lit it, he was over the other side of the road taking photo's.
Happy Halloween eh!
