Hi,
Does anybody know if a document as simple as a birth certificate (written in French) would need to be offically translated to make a visa application? Considering a birth certificate really just has a name, DOB and town surely they wouldn't need this translated?

If it is the case that it does need translation then where in London can we get this "offically" translated?

Any document submitted to DIMIA and the skills assessing authority that isn't in English has to be translated by a competent translation service. DIMIA requires that translation done outside of Australia be performed by a person who has been approved to do such translations by the government of the country. (Page 47 of Booklet 1119 for Skilled Migration)

My birth certificate was written in English, while the certificate had words printed in my national language (things like 'name:', 'birth date:', etc.) I got mine translated anyway, and I'm quite sure the translator was having an easy time doing it for me.
