Question Transferring BUPA Cover from UK to Aus

We currenty have BUPA cover through OH's employers and have gotten quoted from them to continue that cover personally once we move.

Has anyone else done this? and if so, was it worthwhile?
cheers

Can't answer the questions as still in the UK, but wanted to add a point to consider.

I don't know what your husband does, but if he is in the sort of "industry" where health cover is included as standard in the salary cover you won't need "personal" cover. There'll just be a few weeks between landing in Oz and until OH gest a job when you'll be without private cover.

As it happens, we joined up with MBF when we arrived and found that they have some sort of reciprocal agreement with BUPA. We got a letter from BUPA stating we'd been insured with them for x years and MBF waived the waiting period - ie., we could get treatment next day if needed without waiting.

I don't know if other insurers do the same thing.

We did look at BUPA international but they wanted around £8000 pa to insure both of us - and this was five years ago!

If you are a "high" earner, having *Australian* medical cover lets you off the Medicare surcharge so it's almost self-funding.
