I went back to the UK for a visit in january for 2 weeks, and I had forgotten how busy it was!! my parents live right behind the M25 a few miles from the QE2 bridge and I must say I was taken back by how much traffic there was. It was a constant roar day and night and nobody has any courtesy on the road either. I had got so used to pulling out on people here and getting the 'whatever' sort of attitude, when I did the same in the UK I just got absolute abuse. No wonder everyone seems so stressed back in the UK!!! I must say I was glad to be home (Aus) again, and I live near Sydney!! People that have lived here all their life moan about the traffic around Sydney but to be honest nothing compares to where I come from!!

Generally the traffic flows a lotter better here, in Melbourne, than it did in London. Although people may be able to pick out specific incidents where the traffic has been slow here, they are nothing in comparison to the stuff back in the UK. A few years back it, on Christmas Eve, it took 2 hours just to get out of the Tesco's carpark :scared: (and that happened 2 years in a row).

I once missed a flight from Brisbane airport one sunday afternoon because of traffic over the Gateway bridge (and I had left early so as to arrive at least 1 hour before the departure time).
It actually took me a full hour to drive from the toll gates to the airport turnoff (maybe 3 Km?) and the reason for the hold up? Main Roads had one lane closed off between the Eagle Farm exit and the airport exit so they could change a light bulb on a street lamp.
The repair crew suffered some abuse thast day!

I notice the rush hour in Melbourne is shorter; leave work as 'early' as 6.30pm to avoid the rush and the traffic has died down completely.
We don't get 80k jams in Melbourne, maybe 20k jams.
