Tell them to shove it...
Just say your network wasn't secure.

Re: TPG - Copyright Infringement notice
I've been known to receive these emails.
Its a good opportunity to consider what sources you are using for your content. If torrents are importnat to you then avoid public trackers and use private tracker sites, run 'PeerGuardian' type software to hide your IP from known 'copyright police' addreses.
Normal procedure when receiving these notes is to ignore completely.
No Australian ISP user has ever [to my knowledge] been prosecuted for Copyright violations on the basis of bit torrent activity tracked through their ISP.... <as yet> - Its all a bluff from the content owners to try and make you stop.
As far as I'm concerned if the owners provided a valid legal channel for me to consume and pay for their product in a usable, transportable, timely and advert free format, then I'd willingly pay for it. But they dont...
In the OPs case however, since it wasnt even your torrenting activity causing the problem - just disregard the email completely.

I use Hide My Ass pro for a secure VPN to do most of my bittorrenting.

It's good for accessing Hulu, BBC iPlayer and Netflix too.
I'd ignore the letter but think about covering your tracks in future.

Relax. It's three strikes and you are out. Revel in your uniqueness.

To the original poster: the action I would take is to simply tell your mate that he has piss poor taste in films.
