We shipped our FL over but until now we have been using a TL. Had one problem with one towel that came out with brown stains on that weren't there before but when I washed it again they came out. Everything has come out clean and smelling fine. Obviously not an expert (only one month experience ;) ) but I think as long as you don't over fill the machine and use enough detergent they appear to work as well as FL. The only thing I'm not sure about is powder for FL. Each time in the supermarket, I have had a quick look and the powders seem to say "only for Tl" - can you really not use them in FL, if not what do others use? I need an almost non existent smell, I used Persil Aloe Vera in the UK. I have a front loader & think its great, but by the same token I have had top loaders all my life & have NEVER had the problems that some of the people on this forum seem to have! As has been mentioned do NOT overfill a TL, the washing should only come up to the top of the vanes in the drum & use a GOOD brand of detergent (Omo concentrate, BioZet or Dynamo all should work) & they should come out not much different to using a FL. I have NEVER ripped clothes in a TL, the only time you would rip clothes IMO is if you over filled it, totally due to the weight of the wet clothes. Contrary to popular opinion, FL's are very readily available over here & are generally only a few dollars more than the equivilent TL to buy. |

I cant imagine a FL will remove a stain any better than a TL if you are using the same temp water, the same washing powder and the same stain remover....Perhaps its the way you wash your clothes???? This whole FL v's TL is a load of shite!! Its a bloody washing machine...not a life saving device!!! Hels Just incidentally, there was a test run a couple of years ago on one of the TV shows which compared TL & FLs, it showed that while FLs are much more economical with water & much gentler on clothes they actually DIDN'T clean as well as a TL. Same stains, same clothes, same detergent etc in each machine & the TLers came out cleaner when they were measured at the end. That was only one test, but it was done as a blind trial & scientifically, so make of that what you will. (Im still happy with my FL :) ). |

Her mother had a Miele front loader that she'd been using for almost 20 years, and the quality of the wash was undeniably superior. From then on, I was a convert. Years later (by which time I was single again) I bought an Ariston front loader. It was more than twice as expensive as the equivalent top loader, but it used a lot less water and was softer on my clothes. :) |

My Ariston set me back about $1400 four years ago; I could have bought two good quality top loaders for that price. |

Re: Top loading washing machines ...
I must admit i love my TL, ive got the fisher and pykel innovitive one (or its called somethnig like that !!) and it has specific washes for specific stains, like spag bol, blood, wine, mud, sweaty clothes etc, it also has a 'how dirty' option and you can put it up or down depending how dirty your clothes are, its fab. it cost around $1100 when we bought it, would change it, very happy with it, but like someone said, each to their own :)

Re: Top loading washing machines ...
Do these machines you speak of here require electricity to work ?
I use a washing board and a mangle and have never had any trouble getting stains out. Ring around the collar ? rub some of grandma's lye soap on it, no worries  I suppose the washers mentioned here do have their uses. In particular when yer hubby is old an going for a full medical. When the nurse asks for a sample of his stool, urine and semen all you have to do is hand over a pair of his undies ;) |
