TK Maxx Equivalent?
Hello,
Does Oz have an equivalent to TK Maxx? I am in need of some bed items-pillows, duvet, bed covers etc. Or can anyone suggest somewhere I can get this stuff quite cheap? Thanks |

Hi Guys
There is nothing like TK Maxx in Melbourne that I am aware of. Probably your best option is Target or Kmart which are department stores, and Target probably have more of a selection than Kmart, or DFO (Direct Factory Outlets) which is a shopping mall where shops have their cut price shops. There is one at Southern Cross Station, one at South Wharf Docklands and one in Essendon. Most of them will have sales on at the moment, and Target are usually very reasonable. Happy Shopping Katie :) |

Re: TK Maxx Equivalent?
You shouldn't have too much trouble with all the sales on at the moment - is there Pillow Talk near you???

Re: TK Maxx Equivalent?
Oh and Best & Less were advertising bedding on TV yesterday :)

Re: TK Maxx Equivalent?
Don't know where you are but there's a couple of bloody awful shops like that round here - called Trade Secrets. Don't know if they are anywhere else though.

Have you ever shopped there? It may have some kind of 'chav' stigma, but the bottom line is that you can get decent quality items for ridiculous prices. Maybe you can afford to go and pay top-whack prices, but a lot of people can't. We bought a whole heap of Le Creuset cookware for absolutely daft prices before coming out to Australia, and I would often buy surfwear such as Quiksilver t-shirts for about £10. People with this 'snobby' attitude seriously do my head in. |
Re: TK Maxx Equivalent?
TK Maxx is a fantastic shop, all top brands at really reduced prices, normally last seasons. I wish I had filled our container up with household stuff before we came here. You wont find anything like that out here in OZ, especially at Target or K-Mart, cheap crap!

Don't know about Zulu but from my perspective it's nothing to do with being snobby it's to do with finding the shop to be my complete idea of hell. I'm sure you can find good bargains there but I'm not prepared to put myself through the nightmare of rummaging through shedloads of crap just to find it when I can find the same stuff in other places for no more than a few dollars or pounds more. The shop IMO is worse than Tescos and that's saying something.
Stuff like kitchenware/bedding etc is all displayed fine and there is absolutely no need for rummaging. I went to Harbortown, Perth a couple of days ago and found that to be a whole lot worse, with incorrect sized items all over the place and clothes on the floor etc. Infact yeah, TK Maxx is an absolute hole - I strongly recommend against going there.....more bargains for me when I pop back to the UK ;) |

Oh come off it. You're looking for t-shirts, size large. You go to the rack which says 't-shirts - large', and you quickly browse through. Believe me when I say I hate shopping, but TK Maxx isn't really that bad. If I can save £30 on a t-shirt then I can stand having to look through.

Re: TK Maxx Equivalent?
I don't have a problem, it's called a discussion. Without which forums such as this would be extremely dull.
You said you have to 'rummage through shedloads of crap', to which I disagreed. That's hardly 'giving you an earful' is it? I simply put my point across in disagreement to your view. My comment about Harbourtown was in reference to the OP's question of if there is anything like TK Maxx in Australia, to which there was a response 'thankfully no'. The point being that there are shops of similar ilk in Australia, and worse. Oh and you simply cannot compare the p!ss-poor quality of clothes in Target and K-Mart to what you will get in TK Maxx. |
Re: TK Maxx Equivalent?
LMAO  so....... there is no TK Maxx what about Primark then  how will I cope?????

I'm in the UK at the moment - and while I don't consider it that important - its glaringly obvious that the high street shopping here is vastly superior AND cheaper. Some people seem to think that Target sell stuff equivalent to the UK high street - I'd agree with the Wookie that that's laughable! |

Not so sure about that, but its just personal opinion. I got dragged into Trade Secrets by someone a few months ago - terrifying place, and I have to say it actually reminded me of Primark :D Give me the likes of Evans or M&S anyday.

The comment 'oh come on' didn't strike me as discussion but what do I know. You're obviously confusing me too much. Wasn't aware I had compared TKM with anywhere other than Trade Secret. Strangely though you complain about the quality of clothing in Target. This is exactly the same quality of clothing, including style, design, colour that Next sell. According to many on here you can't beat Next.
Anyway I've suggested Trade Secret to the OP, can't be arsed to 'discuss' shopping. Dinner needs cooking. Where did I mention Next? Some people seem to have an assumption that because TK Maxx products are cheap, that they're crap and comparable to Target or K-Mart. Which is a nonsense, because the items for sale in TK Maxx are high-quality brands. |

TK was ok. You could get good stuff for the price of cheap stuff. I wasn't a fan of the way the shop was laid out but that is a small matter.
Some awesome cookware to be had. Large Le Creuset baking dish for £25 is stupid cheap. |

I love TK Maxx. Yes it takes ages to go through certain things, but well worth it at times. I have got some right bargains from there. Last years designer clothes are a bargain as well as Jackets/coats.

Re: TK Maxx Equivalent?
Am I bad for liking the sound of 'Trade Secrets' purely because it 'feels like Primark'? lol! Primark kept me afloat in kids clothes for a few good years when times were tough....I even looked forward to my shopping trips to Stevenage because of it (oh and Matalan!!)
Oh Dear...I've gone too far now, I can tell by your silence  Jan (who never went in to TK Maxx as she wrongly always thought it was a chav sports wear store :o) |
