Default Tips for shipping goods

The GB Liners chap told us to not use our dishwasher and washing machine for a week before shipping them. He said also to lift up the fronts of them to make sure as much of the water drains out of the pipes as possible. Also to put lots of tea bags on a plate in the dishwasher overnight and close door and then repeat this process each night until they are dry the next morning. The teabags soak up the moisture.

I would never have thought to do this. I have read others have said they have yellowing of their white goods with shipping.

So I guess that hopefully by reducing the moisture content in you goods you reduce the amount of yellowing that will occur.

Anybody else have handy hints for others about to ship their goods?

They packed part of the food blender with part of the varnished bird table. the white plastic part of blender is now yellow.

Items that can be dismantled: the nuts, bolts etc I put them in a freezer bag and wrote on the bag which piece of furniture it related to. These bags were put into a bits n bob box where we should have put the instructions

Also not to wax furniture too close to shipment date.

If there is room, it should go.

one of those moisture trap things also work well and a little faster than the t-bags

Another good one is to put bedding etc and also foto albums in those vacumm bags we put all the kids cuddly toys in them too

Quite a few people have had their leather couches and some had a specialised chair nicely slashed by the person opening it on the other side.

If you choose a BAR afiliated removal company in the UK , the UK company will only deal with FIDA companys world wide , so if your Upolstry gets cut , you will have some come back, was your company a BAR company ??....... mm

We haven't left yet - stuff is being packed in just less than 3 weeks time. We're using GB Liners/Kent. And the GB Liners chap was more than happy to give instructions to people packing to put stickers on my sofas saying PLEASE DON'T OPEN WITH A KNIFE.

I guess the Kent chaps on the other side will have a chuckle but then at least I have a higher chance of having intact couches by the end of the whole removals process.
