Have tried to get info re canberra, I have seen some photos online and my first instincts were that it looked like the set off the film "Truman Show". Are you planning to move out on your own if you are sucessful? Have you been to australia before?

I know its near impossible to live in Britain on your own unless you have loads of money?

Amy,
You've really got nothing to lose and should go for it.
I moved to Canberra about 6 weeks ago from London and don't regret it. I'll be posting a more detailed 'report' (for those that are interested) soon, but have more important things to do in the meantime - like get a job before the baby arrives in about 4 weeks - yikes!
Lovely place - especially when the sun shines (most days), and you live beside the lake.
Will look out for your posts and see how you go. You can PM for more info if you like.
Big.

Hi Amy,
Is this a family services job in Canberra? If so I have been offered the post too.
My name is Kristine I'm originally from Govanhill, but have been living in Birmingham for the past eight years - working as a youth worker.
My partners brother lives in Canberra - he has great things to say about the place and lifestyle.
I am going to take the post - so it would be great if i had someone to chat things through with!
Drop me a line if you fancy chatting.
Cheers

I have recently been offered the opportunity to go to live and work in Canberra, Australia however I don't know very much about the place. I have always thought of emigrating at some point in my life (I live in Glasgow, Scotland at the moment) but this opportunity has come out of the blue. I am really just looking for some general information and perhaps some opinions on why I should consider Canberra to be my home (I am 27 yrs old with no dependants)
I am looking for a lifestyle which is less materialistic and where people are a little less self absored than in the UK. Would Australiia be a good choice and what is so different about the Australian way of life?
Any thoughts or ideas would be great
Cheers
