Wait until you've been away for 3 months - you'll realise what else you miss......!!! Its all those little things you take for granted. We had the same philosophy as you, then we made the move....you don't know what you have til it's gone...then it's a case of whether it was important to you or not.

Rich.

rich have lived abroad before for many years so know what it is like

the decision to come back to blighty was never my decision and i wished i could have stayed away

this time it is my decision and my application so there is no way i am coming back

you are right though, being away from your home country is the hardest thing you can do and i dont think that people realise the effect it will have on them, i have posted before that homesickness takes a long time to disappear (if ever) and if you have strong family ties then it gets worse as time goes on, fortunatly i am realistic and know the rose tinted glasses slip at a certain point but if i dont like where i am then the world is a big place

Sorry to tell you but theres more home improvement shows here than anything else.
I dont say much good about the uk but it does have some reasonably good shows at times. It depends what you like. I like some of the nature and archaeological shows, something I find very rare here in oz.
Some of them you can get with fox here but not free to air.
I miss my cable tv in canada where there are great channels like the history channel, arts and entertainment channel, the life channel, and others that are specific to a particular subject

I agree with all of the above and I also won't miss:

people smoking in restaurants

no eye contact on the street and public transport (London style)

Linda bloody Barker

Just have to say that the no eye contact bit exists in Oz, even out of the cities. The best way to combat is plant a bloody big smile on your face and show them how it is done.

Now this Linda Barker bird - seen her on the Australian Lifestyle Channel on UK Changing Rooms and from word go could not stand her. That horrid voice!

Judging by the Hello Mag/UK Woman & Woman's Own she is the new People's Presenter, as seen with Davina "Big Brother" McCall and Carol "Bloody" Voderman! She is even in ad's for blond hair dye as well as her own range of household/interior design stuff - get me out of here please!

I will avoid her like the plague!

1 Oz has all the home improvement programs you could ever not wish for.

2 Fred who?

3 He'll be over for Mardi Gras

4 Stately homes vs Mc Mansions

5 They make appearances in the news but they are not as ubiquitous.
