Default Things to do for 18/19 year olds in Perth?

Hi

Can anyone please advise me my daughter has been very reluctant to come to Perth with us. We started the process over 4 years ago when she would have been around 14 and now thankfully she has decided after much thought and consideration to come with us out to Perth when we emigrate in August.

But in hindsight I am always a firm believer that things happen for a reason and perhaps the timing wasnt right then because I lost my father 18 months ago and my partner lost his father last August so that would have been a big wrench for us both.

We are looking into Unis for Hannah and also maybe a network of friends for her to perhaps talk to so that it makes the transition over alot smoother. We are looking to stay NOR Perth.

Is there much for 18 to 19 year olds to do out there? I think she is sadly going to miss the nightlife etc we have here in the UK.

If there are network forums I can put her in touch with or any groups she can join when she gets out there that would be suitable for this age range.

I would appreciate your comments.

Many thanks

Debbie

What is there in the UK?

Plenty of pubs, clubs, beaches, cafes to socialice in/on.

If they are into nature there are plenty of reserves.

Sport is easier due to the weather.

Travel? The whole of SE Asia is available a few hours away.

Or just get a carton of piss in the back of the truck and head down a beach.

Perth has Cafes and Bars but in compared to Europe or the Eastern States it's a joke and many of them will take 30 mins away if you live in the outer suburbs.

It is getting better though.

Pubs : UK - I've not been to a "drinkers" pub in the UK in ages. They are all closed, refurbed gastro pubs or full of dolies and smell of p*ss & BO due to the smoking ban.
Aus - plenty of bars in Perth/Freo and club bars in the 'burbs.

Outside Cafe : UK - Cold, wet, with sh*t food.
Aus - Flies and rubbish service.

It's "different", but it's there.

Hi Debs 1966

We also have a daughter who is 19 and we will be moving back to Perth at the end of March.

Although we lived there for 5 years she has been quite settled back in the UK for the last 2 years and it will be like starting all over again for her too.

She would be happy to chat to your daughter via expats or whatever as they are same age and both wanting to go to Uni in Perth.

We will be living back in Mindarie (North of Perth).

There's TONNNNNES to do!!!!

Surfing, boating, cruises down the river. And if they don't like the beach try off-roading, drag racing, camping in the middle of nowhere or there are loads of sports clubs. Get them in with the backpackers scene & watch how quick they go travelling round the country. All they need is a job behind a bar & off they'll go. Oh, and as for nightlife, check out http://www.xpressmag.com.au/ its got all the latest gigs, festivals, nightlife etc.

Just don't move too far from the city cos transport can be a nightmare

I have a 20 year old ... We call her Kevin... She's either never here or sleeping... So there must be plenty to do in perth..

She went to the casino and spent $3 ..... Came back with $1200 in her pocket... Not overly impressed with that one... But i can suck it up...
