Default Things being done!

Hubby handed his notice in this morning He is leaving at the end of April, then has to finish off courses in London for his Masters in May, then we have June off together to go round saying goodbye to everyone - all our friends are so scattered across the country that one big leaving party is not an option for us unfortunately

And, had the first shipper come round today, estimating that we need half a 20ft container, costing £1600-1800 for all our stuff, but has advised that if we leave the bed behind (not an expensive bed) it would save us £250, which I believe we could get a new one in Oz for that? That was with Excess Baggage by the way.

Can't decide whether to air or ship freight the computer. Will need one for getting a job!

Air freight will cost you a fortune for a PC, monitor and printer (depending on sizes of course). We bought a cheap laptop and portable printer to take instead and I don't think it cost much more than shipping costs - with the benefit that we now have 2 computers.

It will be good enough for internet use and printing CV's until the main computer arrives.

Plus I got a new toy!

Good stuff! You must be really excited!

Incidentally, we've been told not to bother taking the bed mattresses - apparently they get distorted during shipping.

Did you decide whether to go to Sydney or Melbourne in the end?

Good luck!
Anya.

Sounds like a rubbish argument.

Are you gullible? Here, lend me a thousand quid. I need it for a life-saving operation on my knee.

Damp and mouldy, maybe - perhaps the shipper is fed up with people claiming on the insurance?

Cost me about £450, that included a tough box on a pallet so the whole thing was lifted in its entireity and couldn't be tipped over. The rate was door-to-door, Brighton to Brisbane. I couldn't afford a laptop, and had to weigh up the price of shipping by air, against the time/money spent seeking out and using internet cafes to job hunt and keep in touch with people while I waited for my shipping by sea.
All arrived in one piece, and was definitely worth it.

Surely if it cost that much it would have been cheaper to buy one out there?? Maybe I'll just ask my friend if she has one that we can use till ours arrives by boat!:scared:
