IKEA stinks!

Even Jules agrees now. Had a very bad experience with their customer service,
Yes, I thought it was just me but it seems like IKEA’s (Aus) customer service really does suck.

On our first trip to the Sydney store (the nearest one to us at the time – 80Kms away) we spent an unpleasant couple of hours fighting our way through a ridiculously small and overcrowded store. After choosing three beds were told at the customer service “No, we certainly don’t deliver to Wollongong. As if the mere thought was preposterous!

Only having a small stationwagon we therefore had to forget the beds but did manage to squeeze a desk into the back. On returning home with it we discovered after reading the dimensions in the catalogue, the desk wouldn’t quite fit into the alcove where we had planned to put it. We ended up returning it still boxed a few weeks later. After explaining to the assistant in customer service that “we would like to return it because it doesn’t fit, I was somewhat taken aback (being used to the no-questions-asked approach in England) when the assistant replied “It’s never been opened so how do you know it doesn’t fit?. After explaining further we received a frown and slight shake of head… but at least our money back.

Perhaps on reflection, I don’t like IKEA as much as I thought I did… even the meatballs didn’t taste the same.
