Them!!!! there back! (ANTS)

The weathe here in Tassie is getting better and warmer and it's brought out heaps of those small black ants. Put traps down to get rid of them and more pop up. Just found a long stream of them in our rental in a unused room. Good job i turned the light on as i would have stood on them, yuk. Thank god they are not those big uns you can get. I would need an elephant gun for them. Whats it like for other parts of Oz?

I tried talcum powder in the UK but it did not work for long. Tried ant powder, two days it lasted. I have now used ant traps and so far seem to work good. Well in the first place i tried as it takes a couple of days to work. As the title is "Them" a homage to the 50's black and white movie, i would love to see a remake of it.

Yeah we get loads of em, big long lines that go on forever and if you stand still for too long near them they bite!! Really hurts too!! They seem to like making nests in my plant pots for some reason. I sprinkle ant sand around and it gets rid of them for a while then they turn up somewhere else.
It's getting rather hot here now so we've started getting the cockroaches too....yuk, I hate them!

We had them in our rental and this was reasonably effective:
Creepy Crawly Killer http://www.multicrop.com.au/pest.htm
Now we have our own place and get it sprayed every year - just the very odd ant inside. Outside is a different story - our garden hosts several thousand colonies of various species. When they sting they HURT. Have just found that wiping a sting with witch-hazel helps as much as StopItch or Stingose.

I use Ant Rid liquid and it seems to do the trick, as long as it's put near their trail, and fairly close to where they come out of the wall or floor.
They come back somewhere else a few weeks later but that's just another nest, so you do the same again. A minor inconvenience now.

Most are on the patio at the back of our house but I've a couple at the front either side of the door...guess I should move them a bit further away from the house. It rained quite heavily today...first rain for about 6months!!!...and there have been lots of ants running around carrying eggs so I'm trying to follow them to see where they set up home next!!

Maybe get one of these as a pet instead of a cat or dog
