Default termites found next door

Hi all

apologises if this is a silly question. Our next door neighbor informed us yesterday that he has discovered termites in his house, appratnley they have done quite alot of damage and whilst finding them he has managed to disturb them.

We have only been in our house for 3 weeks and had a pest and building inspection done which was all clear.

The neighbors house is only about 20 metres from our house.

Should we be getting termite treatment? I have spoken to a few pest companies who have all said yes but didn't know if this was the norm when termites are discovered so close to your property.

Also if we get the treatment done (which will cost around $3000) how long does it last and are there different treatments to go for.

I had never seen termites but now i have been shown some scares me even more!

any thoughts would be greatly received.

Hi,

They will all try and scare you into having treatment. You should really get the perimeter done, we had ours done last year and it was about $150 I think. The termites only get in if there is wood near the house. Ours chewed a fence post and also a bit of wooden trellis on our outside shower. We ended up having a row with the termite people because we panicked and phoned them on a Sunday and they used scare tactics to persuade us to have the whole treatment. When the bloke turned up the next day to do it, he told us we didn't need it all done. We phoned the bloke who had given us a quote and ended up with him coming over and me having a slagging match with him. In the end my husband ended up telling him to get out of the house. Spoke to the boss of the company and complained and in the end just got basic treatment done. They treat the affected areas and also drill holes (if there aren't some there already) along the bottom of the house walls outside and squirt the stuff in there.

Hope this helps
Jo
