Default Tax and additional costs when on working visa

Been offered a position in Brisbane but its on a working visa and not perminant, what are the tax implications on working away for 4 years on returning to the UK?
and if we apply later for apermanant visa, what are the implications of tax on our house sale?
Thanks for reading my first post.
Cheers
Richard.

That kind of question is far too general. What country are you talking about to begin with - Australia or UK tax?

Richard.

Tax residency and permanent residency aren't the same issue. You can be tax resident without being a permanent resident, which has advantages and disadvantages. You need professional advice to discuss the details as they can get very complex.

Have you thought about all the non-tax hassles and problems involved with a temporary visa? Are you eligible for a permanent visa and will your employer sponsor (and if not, why not?).

Richard,

That is a very broad set of questions - or rather they are questions that demand too detailed an answer than I think you will get on a discussion forum.

There are some free tax factsheets here:
www.collettandco.com
which might get you started.

Note also that there are some tax provisions in Australia that are expected to become law next year that should exempt long term temporary visaholders from certain taxes that apply to permanent residents and citizens of Australia.

Happy to advise more fully/formally is required ...

Best regards.
