We're fine here, hope you're well. We're just waiting till next week now for our house to go back on the market. Hoping for a quick sale this time so that we can get moving asap - although we would prefer it if the AUD rate would improve during the next few months! ;)

Cathy :)

AUD rate is forecast to move to about 1.40 over the next few months..

Blimey, I'd better keep that quiet from OH as he would definitely think it was the right time to go back to the UK, and at those rates we could get some back some of the money we've spent getting here in the first place!!

How are you both, still busy with the music. I need some new glasses so might see you soon!

Hi Effie

How are you?

All good down here, waiting for Spring to arrive, fed up with the rain! Although I must admit I've never seen the island looking so green no it's not all bad.

Hi Cathy

You're right, it has been very quiet on here lately, think Facebook has taken a few of us away ;)

You know that I'm keeping my fingers well and truly crossed for you to get that quick house sale and get yourself over here! The exchange rate is certainly a worry, you might get away with just bringing what you need for the initial set up and then gamble on when to move the rest over, don't listen to anything that H**x tell you as we were naive and believed their advice and messed up big time!

hey Sammy

We're all doing good - havent had any contact from most of my family for over a month but nothing I can do to change that so will leave it be

DD turns 2 tomorrow so have made a cake, got presents wrapped and hopefully tomorrow we will see Gary, Vikki and Holly at her birthday party.

Cathy - hope you get a quick sale on the house too... different country but my brother did what sammy suggested and only took what they needed when they moved to spain and then waited for the rates to change/stabilise before transferring the majority. I would definitely stock up at primark before you come though, particularly the prices at the moment!

Happy Birthday to your DD for tomorrow, hope you have a lovely day, I loved my children's birthdays when they were little, everything is so exciting at that age!

Sorry to hear that you have heard nothing from your family, as you say you can't probably change anything so just get on with your own life, is it because you live so far away that has caused problems?

Sam - not really to do with living away... my family (particularly mum) has decided I am lying about something to do with one of my siblings (who I dont have anything to do with) - she told me her view when I was visiting - and because I'm not willing to back down or compromise have elected not to have anything to do with me or DD. Sorry that sounds so cryptic, I'm not very comfortable with putting more than that on a public forum - suffice to say that I am protecting myself and DD over backing down with my family.

Sorry, I didn't mean to be nosy but I know being so far away has caused some serious strain with our relationships with family back home.

What a nightmare, and how very sad as they will miss out with your DD and she with them but sometimes you have no choice but to make tough decisions. You have your own life to lead and your own family to protect.

Hi Gary

Sounds like you are having a busy time, glad the weather has improved up north, has been pretty chilly and wet down here for the last few weeks, we have the odd warm day then back to wet and windy!

Hi Sam, i think you're right about facebook - i definitely spend far too much time on the site! :)
I think we'll no doubt come over with what we need to get set-up - we were planning on leaving the bulk of our money in our UK account for a while i think until we were certain we wanted to buy / settle for definite on the Island. I've kind of given up tracking the rate lately as it only depresses me when it's dropped below 1.8! Shame the pound is so weak against quite a few currencies now...:( Still things could improve by the time we need to worry about all that - 2.5 would be nice ha ha. :)

Hi Effie, Happy 2nd birthday for tomorrow for your daughter. I love that age the best. I'm quite sad that my son will be turning 3 this december - although Christmas will be great this year as he's talking about it already - probably the tv adverts of nothing but toys are having something to do with that lately ;) I hope she enjoys her party & Mummy & Daddy aren't too worn out at the end of it! :D I've gradually been replacing a few things at home, certain stuff in the kitchen & stocking up on clothes etc for the kids next size up...so hopefully when we come to ship everything - a lot of the stuff will save us having to buy a lot of stuff for a while. I lose track of the offers in shops at the moment - they're all trying to outdo one another - i imagine the lead up to xmas will see a LOT of offers about to encourage people to get spending more than they did last year.
I'm also sorry to hear you haven't had any contact with your family. Just know you're not alone with family problems - i think we all have them at times for one reason or another - my parents didn't speak to my older brother for several years - even now it's a bit awkward and strained at times, and i am often caught in the middle as i've not fallen out with either side but things do get better or at least easier to deal with...I hope that things work out eventually for you all - but as Sam said you have to get on with your own life - otherwise sometimes family problems can eat into you....

Hi Gary, how many chickens do you have now? Sounds like you're really enjoying becoming partly self-sufficient! Have you been to the Deloraine craft show before? I've heard that it's very good - isnt Deloraine quite a haven for arts & crafts lovers generally? It's a place i'm quite to visit one day for that particular reason. Cathy :)
