I spoke to an ex telstra dealer the other week, she said she ended up having a nervous breakdown whilst working for them :( |

Gary Well seeing as we only have 3 sheep....one for the master, one for the dame, you see where I'm going with this don't you? lol :lol: No seriously we got a professional shearer in to help us out, as we didn't have a bloody clue! He charged $5.00 per sheep and took away the wool, I'm guessing he sold it on, who know's. But you can't grumble at $5.00 per sheep. If I remember rightly I think he charged a call out fee of $30.00, but we got him to do the neighbours sheep at the same time and went halves on the call out fee. Be aware though that if you over feed your sheep and it is over weight they will charge double for it! My neighbours sheep is huuuuge and he said it's not healthy for a sheep to be that big, and charged them $10.00 to shear it! |

Kezza - we do the same as you... we have 3 sheep too (we did start off with inheriting 4 from the previous owners) the shearer comes round... one year it cost us $30 for them because they had a lot of wool! Our neighbour takes them to sell them and we let him keep the money from the wool because he goes to the effort of taking them away.

Crikey, what are the other options other than using Telstra? Dont like the sound of them so i think i'll try and avoid them if i can! ;)
Kezza, like your list of stuff....i'm planning on having refresher driving lessons when i arrive in Tas so that i can start driving again (ashamed to say i haven't driven since passing my test over 17 years ago :o!!!). Bit worried about some of the local's driving now! LOL Apart from the guys that live rurally - do people ever use the public transport (ie, buses) on the Island? I know it will vary from place to place but i imagine we'd eventually settle in one of the larger towns somewhere so hopefully i can rely on buses to get me out and about until i'm car mobile. :) oh, and i nearly forgot - what is Trevalla? |

Cathy - Trevalla is fish, quite tasty too
Buses - personally I wouldnt rely on them... we live less than 10km from Launceston and I wouldnt want to be trying to use public transport. Not sure what its like for the others though. We do have a bus stop close by but the service is VERY ordinary. Melb and Sydney I used to use public transport a lot but I havent here at all. I think Hobart is slightly better, but I used to drive down when I worked there so couldnt say for sure. Kezza - I think the reasoning behind the Oz passport first is because they are Oz citizens by birth (particularly if not registered with BHC) |

I've applied for Cat 175 as Cook, since of lately, considering applying for Tasmanian SS. Cooks are on Tassi, demand list, but for certain categories of occupation, including Cooks, having a job offer in the State is one of the major prerequisites. Could anyone shed some light on this requirement, Please, Further, Although I was assessed as Cook, I have both qualification and experience as Pastrycook/ Cake decorator, So please advice me job opportunities for Cooks and Pastry Cooks, along with some idea of going salaries. Thanks |

Don't think there is much choice other than Telstra if you want a landline, I know some people just use their mobiles for everything and that's probably not a bad idea with Telstra's reputation, all the local people hate them too so it's not just us whinging poms!! Buses - we live in Margate only 20 mins from Hobart but there are only about 4 buses a day. If you are in Kingston/Blackmans Bay there is a much better choice, run on time, good value fares and well used when I've used them. Unfortunately Margate is in a different fare zone so the price goes up comsiderably when I use the bus, but it's still not bad compared to how much I used to pay when I occasionally used them in the UK. As already said Trevalla is a fish, blue eyed trevalla is my favourite when we go to Mures, we haven't been there for ages (after being a regular for the first few months!) so might tomorrow as I've got to pick Angus from work. I'm going to have be good next week after all the nice food over the next few days. Ah well, you're only 42 (shush, say it quietly) once :D Sam |

Forgot to mention about the phones...
We do use a different company to Telstra for our landline... there are some that use the Telstra infrastructure but in my experience have been considerably cheaper than Telstra. I have used AAPT before as well and they were really good. When I first emigrated we used Optus for the landline - our 'relocation agent' found out that Telstra required a bond for making STD and overseas calls with a newly emigrated customer, Optus didnt. I use vodafone for mobile but find its not great on coverage in Tassie - lot more 'black spots' than Telstra Sam - when was/is your birthday? |
