Now you can get on with your life here, I'm so pleased for you! You must be so relieved. Best of luck with it all mate.

Thanks for that. Yes its quite a relief. Its not the amount we were after but we have to move on. Only hope it does not fall through. We started to look at house now as before there was just no point. But things in the UK are really dire and getting worse. So take the money and run i guess. I talked my my dad the other day and tells me its getting worse with the economy and crime. So next plan is to get my dad out too if at all possible.

Hi Kastell,

I brought my dogs over from the UK and have acquired some more since being in Oz. Its is relatively expensive, the size of your dogs will determin the overall cost.

I live near Launceston but travel along to the North West regularly including Smithton and Burnie.

The coast is particularly beautiful in circular head (smithton area) but as the locals say your not looking at that when your driving to get somewhere (ie not a tourist). The communities in the area are very tight knit, everyone knows everyone and tends to know everyone else's business. Strangers (not toursits) can stick out like a sore thumb. I remember going into the local coles and feeling like the whole shop had stopped with everyone looking at me, I swear I could hear banjos playing

Everyone I've met there is extremely friendly and there is a genuine community spirit but I think it would take a longtime to develop any meaningful social contacts.

Burnie is seen by many as a bit of an eye sore, people (Tasmanian's) often say Devonport an Ulverstone are much nicer. I think if were looking to live in the north west I'd probably look at Devonport.

However I would say keep your options open and also have a look at Launceston, its a great place and you'd probably find it not only offers everything you are looking for (and more) but would be easier to develop a social network and activities.

Good Luck

Hi there Alien where in Lonnie are you? we have a house near Beauty Point a place called Greens Beach (Yorktown), so its thro Beaconsfield . I know where your coming from, everyone does know everyone, its better than a burglar alarm he he he

Good idea to get the book for reference, i must admit i have a Dr Miriam Stoppard (remember her from the TV?), book regarding childhood illness/common illnesses - and i have referred to it loads of times since having the kids... Very handy to have...

Hope you have a great weekend and that the weather's good for you! :)

Hi Cathy yes St Johns Ambulance is here and yes I remember Miriam Stoppard she ate her placenta after giving birth

Got an update too.

Finally sold our house but way under what we wanted. Had to bite the bullet as at this rate we would be spending more on flights than what we lost in the value of the house. The Mrs goes back to the UK tonight to sort every thing and hopefully be back in just over a month. Good luck to any one (and there are a few) trying to sell.

congrats must be a weight off your mind :)

As the original offer was way under our asking price anyway there's no way we can drop a further £10,000 (and dont particularly want to for someone who's going to potentially mess us about) so we're back to hoping for viewers this weekend!

Cathy :(

bloody hell mate :( I thought he may do something like that, unfortunately it is just business to him and if he thinks you are desperate then he will offer lower, is that his final offer then?

Hi there Possum, your name Possum always brings a smile to my face. We have Patrick the Possum in our grounds... he comes for his feed every night, he loves apples. We went camping a few months back and a Possum broke into our Tent and stole our Marshmallows, he had pink and white froth all over his face.... Bridport is lovely, we have friends that live there and he works for the golf course. Yes Possum, we love our home in Greensbeach which is near Beauty Point, when I am home I sit there with a bottle of vino collapso and just stare in awe at the bird life, the roos, rabbits and fish jumping in the Tamar. Karratha, of course is entirely different, I found the heat in the beginning a bit over bearing but you get used to it. My O/H has worked in Karratha for many years and he finds it warm out there in the desert, but the fishing is good, great for trips over to Bali, and we dont go short, you get strange longings though for Tassie, like fresh fruit/veggies/eggs, cooler weather and friends but salaries are higher up here, and got a few things we need to do before we go back to Tasmania for good.

Hi there Possum, well the Possum sure made us laugh through the night, he wouldnt leave us aone. Good luck with the Golf, I will probably join you when we come over. Tongue n cheek here Possum, everybody told me that WA was stunning, each to their own but for me Tasmania beats it hands down. The Wine Route in WA very nice but to snobbish for me, I love our local wine growers, it is more cottage industry and I prefer that. Camping in WA is good, well organised etc, like Freemantle very much, I always stand there and imagine what it must have been like to arrive by boat there a hundred years ago! scary stuff hehehehehe

Yes Possum, Port Hedland airport isnt too far from us, they do some wonderful deals... Here in Karratha, there is a wonderful frniture shop dealing with Balinese furniture, and am slowly collecting stuff like day beds for our rumpus room. Bali is beautiful isnt it and Ubud amazing, such lovely people as well. Do you miss WA?

ah do you play golf? sounds good

well its a different kind of stunning, to me WA exactly filled my picture of Australia. big red kangaroos, red earth the most fantastic sunsets and beaches, we caught a bus from Perth up to Broome I will never forget the stars and the landscape as we travelled, emus next to the road!! and the big lizards :) we shared a beach with dozens of turtles in Exmouth no one else around just fantastic :) I'm not talking of the suburbia but of the land.

we were based in the Swan Valley so did a few vineyards, went to some really nice ones and to a few good festivals

some great vineyards here though, we to Festivale the other week had a ball tasting the plonk

mmm think it would have been betting arriving at Freemantle than Port Arthur or worse Sarah Island

just seen your last reply, yep Ubud beautiful loved it and the people are lovely.

not sure if I miss WA, dont think I could live in the heat to be honest though suppose you'd get used to it, we havent been back since 2003 it sounds like a different place reading stuff on here, sounds like its very built up now.
would def go back again though :)

ok bed time for me, nice chatting with you :)

Cathy, I feel excited for you, and I know you will love the friendliness of Tasmania. I have an english friend in Tasmania who came over when she was in her twenties with both parents here. she longs to return to the UK but the UK she remembers isnt the same and she needs to go over just to satisfy herself she is in the right place. It is a big decision Cathy, but I think when you see the childen's faces you will know you have done the right thing. Havng young children you will make friends easily. Holiday home/rent sounds a great idea so you are not pressurised. My container took 3 months to reach Tasmania via Singapore, had great removals and packers , it was so strange seeing my belongings once again and in a different land. Yes laws are a funny thing Cathy, my husband was shocked hhehe.... I do love my home, I have left a son back in London whom I miss dreadfully, he is an adult and another in Korea (easier to get to hahaha) but we have the infamous Skype and Messenger, so life for us is much easier than for the lst immigrants hahaha and the boys always have a choice in either meeting us in Oz or Asia for the Christmas holidays.

I agree immigrants nowadays have it so much easier than people did years ago with all the modern technology available to keep in touch with people.
People were much braver back then!

So your container took 3 months - that was quite a while. I remember when we made enquiries last year they said between 10-12 weeks but i think most other people we know that have shipped stuff did take less than that amount of time. Guess it depends on each journey!

:)

That's great news Lenmil. Really pleased for you - although can sympathise with the money side of things :( Blooming recession!

I hope the sale goes nice and smoothly - and i'm really pleased that you can now all be where you want to be - together as a family. :)

Hi Kay, oh yes, i remember now about her doing that! But then again its not unusual in some cultures is it, and im sure i've read somewhere that some bury it outside their front door's for luck! That guy Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall cooked one as well once on the tv and made something like pate out of it! Now i know i'll eat anything, but i think i'd give that a miss myself.

Glad you enjoyed the body & soul expo. What did you get up to there? and Congratulations on the 2 year anniversary!
Are you planning to apply for citizenship soon? You're lucky you and Kezzabird arrived before they changed the ruling to 4 years....:)

Hi Sammie, does it cost much to send furniture over from Bali to Australia?
Balinese furniture is lovely.....how strict are custom's regarding stuff sent that way rather than UK - OZ ?
My partner Andy has been to Bali and really liked it there - he spent longer than he'd originally planned to there because he was so relaxed! He would like to go again with me and the children, and as i've never been am open to the suggestion :)
