My Elec for a family of four (3 females who unfortunately love long showers) is $750 per quarter.

Internet is $70 per month (20gb download)

Mobile is $45 per month

Health Insurance $220 pm

Rego is Car Registration

Wow your electric is high! My latest gas bill was $115 for the quarter, gas not much different either. Would you say elec is more expensive in Tas than WA? My rego here is $257 for 6 months, how much are the roadworthy tests over there and how frequent?

no gas supply here.

elec over last 12 months = approx $800.

water included in rates: rates $1500 this year.

phone approx $40 per month.

house+contents ins about $400 per year.

car rego $550 this year, car ins can't remember but i can find out.

all the above obviously depend on your circumstances and usage levels !

Just wanted to point out to those coming from UK that rates dont have to be paid on rentals, only when you own a home. Not like council tax in UK!

Cherry My Electricity is actually cheaper here in Tas - I paid $650 for 62 days back in Perth! We were running a pool and an airconditioner!!!

Rego is slightly dearer about $100 p.a.

and you only need the roadworthy once to register it, then you can run it into the ground and run a bomb around like the rest of 'em do :)

There is gas in tasmania it just doesnt cover all areas

http://www.auroraenergy.com.au/resid...n_tasmania.asp

our electric averages $300 a quarter

phone $50 a month with an international plan inc

ADSL unlimited $29 a month for first 9 months then $60

Rates $1600

no idea about rego have 3 vehicles I dont get involved in that side

additional water costs are around $30 for the year

house and contents $700 per year

groceries @ $200 a week

OH mobile on a contract $60 a month (complete waste of money he never uses it)

I'm on pay as you go.

Congratulations Zoe, I have boys and a girl, and i love them all the same, but it is so nice being able to buy girly things, and she is going to be so lucky when she is older with her brothers.

We have a pay as you go type thingy for electric. Our house is a 3 bed with an airconditioner and electric cooker, only 2 adults and 1 ankle biter, but I like to take long piping hot showers:o. I put $100 on it when we first moved in and that lasted about 2 months.

Our next house has Pay as you go as well. I don't know what we are doing wrong to have such high elect bills compared to everyone else? Definately getting a shower timer for the girls.

Zoe, congrats on having a girl!! Will be a big change for you :)

Thanks for the replies about the cost of living. Beginning to worry if we can afford to live in Tas now on one wage :(
So basically if we are living in a rented house we don't have to pay the rates on top as they are included in the rent? That's a big help, for now anyway.
How much is a 2nd hand 7 seater car over there? Nothing fancy, just need the seats for the kids!!!!

here's the site for the cars section of the Mercury's classified ads:

http://carsguide.news.com.au/

it doesn't list many of the private sales though or all the dealers but it's a start !
