Crikey, cant say i've ever seen driftwood that big before! :ohmy:

I like the fact that a lot of the beaches have great big rocks/boulders on them..... Are all of these pictures taken in the North of the Island near Burnie?

Yes the beach shots are West of Burnie. If you look at one shot you can see tyre tracks on the sand. A mate took me out in his Pajero for a drive along the beach at speed too. Then a bit of 4X4. Most of the logs you see are huge and there were hundreds of them, all washed up by the sea. Saw a dead penguin that was cut in half by some thing sharp. Shark by the look of it. Speaking of sharks, there are quite a few of them in the waters. A big un was caught not far from Wynyard when i was there. Tell you what, i would not liked to have had a close swim with it as it was big enough to eat you. Still the locals catch them like it was normal, well there it is.

It's a good job my daughter isn't old enough to read these threads - she'd be terrified if she knew there were huge sharks about in the sea! She knew when we visited WA (Perth) last year that there are often sharks in the sea - and that people had been killed/attacked there. We'd kind of convinced her that there aren't any where she might swim in Tasmania! :eek: Do they come in close at all to the shore? has anyone been attacked? what kind of shark are they? (i'm not particulary worried about it myself - but would make sure i didnt venture out too far - the film Jaws has a lot to answer for....:lol:)

I did not hear of any one being attacked in Tassie (Northern Parts). But the sharks don't come in close to the beach. So they say. But there were loads of people every day swimming in the sea with no fear at all. All ages too. Best not to go too far out as there are strong rip tides any way. Lovely seas around Tassie. You do have to watch out for blue ringed octopus as they are deadly. Here is a YouTube vid of the beach.

Lovely photo's Lenmil, you should do a gallery on here for all to see, if you check out my gallery I think I also have a pick of the trees from down below :thumbup: We've yet to get up to Burnie way, but hope to visit one of these days. Does it cost to put a video on youtube?

Hello you!!

Long time no post :huh: Good to hear that you managed to buy though, even if you are only here for 2 years though, it's still a good investment. They reckon property prices, especially small units are booming again.:thumbup: And you don't have to sell, you could rent it out and still keep it as an investment. Good move I reckon.:)

So apart from the shops, how is everyone settled?

Well i lived there and loved it as did the family. And we want to go back. But i see in your other posts you mention how expensive it is in Oz (or Tassie). Your bang on there. Food is unbelievably expensive and while i was there every thing jumped up in price. As expensive as the UK is it's way cheaper than OZ for sure. Second hand car prices are a joke there too, but petrol was cheaper. Still it was better than NZ in regards to wages.
