Dont know about posh in Harrogate - my Sister in law must have come from a hidden bit then! I dont remember seeing the lights at Christmas time - even though my brother got married in December as well - but we stayed in Knaresborough - next to the famous Mother Shiptons Well.
So you've never heard of the expression "Chav" - well it's not very flattering. For want of trying to explain myself - i thought i'd paste part of the Wikipedia definition.... "are mainly derogatory slang terms in the United Kingdom for a stereotype fixated on low quality or counterfeit goods. It commonly refers to those belonging to a youth sub-culture, often stereotypically associated with a low socio-economic class, a striking dress sense and criminal activity. The term appeared in mainstream dictionaries in 2005.[1][2] There are regional variations; in the North East of England the variant charv / charva is most commonly used (particularly in Newcastle upon Tyne and Sunderland areas, where the term originated.) and has been used since the early 1990s, while in the South East of England and South West of England chav is the usual form. The term differs depending on area and dialect; in Scotland, they are known as "neds". Response to the term has ranged from amusement to criticism that it is a new manifestation of classism.[3] The term has also been associated with juvenile delinquency, the "ASBO Generation", "Hoodie culture", and "Yob culture"." Hopefully that sums it up for you!!! Cathy :) I feel quite modern now:) I like Knaresborough and yes Mother Shiptons Well. If my recollection is correct there was some talk a while ago now about discontinuing the Valley Gardens Lights due to vandalism. As fast as the Council replaced damaged wiring and broken bulbs the Yobs came back and did it over again,So maybe you struck a year when as you say no lights on, interesting. Not posh then, just posh in places:D Cheers Oldgit |

This beautiful weather should help too:thumbsup: Sam Yes, the good weather is a bonus - hopefully the garden will look nice! I got home from work last night and Andy had already done hanging baskets for the front of the house - not that they'll be any flowers for a while - but at least it makes the front nicer rather than just seeing the hooks without any baskets on them! he needs to pay a trip to the dump this week though - as where he cut down a large bush out the front we now have that to get rid of in bags down the side of the house! Anyway, hows your sorting out / planning for the move coming along? Any news on an exchange date yet? Also, have you decided how you'll get to Tas yet? ie, what airline / where to stop etc? Cathy :) |

Only reason i ask is my daughter bless her came home from school last night - they are going to a farm tomorrow for a school day trip - and her teacher had given them all strict instructions to wear jeans with their school uniform so that they can avoid the stingy-nettles! |
