do also realise you cant ask for extra sauce, as in an extra carton of curry sauce and they dont sell chips or hot chips as they say here. like someone else said noodle box or hungry jacks are the best, was liking macdonalds in the uk, but the burgers here are crap, too much salt on the fries and the chicken when you bite into it is all like watery urh.the chinese here is jam packed full of meat though.

but must say it's probably cheaper to eat out than it is in, but unless it's noodle box then it's junk food.

there's a whole different ball game going on with us

We're from the UK, but live in the Middle East and everything tastes different here compared to the UK, and not necessarily better.

I'm just into the Mushroom Portabello from Hardees at the mo and was previously informed that 'something' Jacks was similar - I just had to check ;)

What I found really exciting when I went to the UK last, was to actually being able to be seated for a pizza at a Pizza Hut store, without having no option but to takeaway. Hadn't done that in years.:)

I get the increasing feeling that in the not too distant future all this country is going to be left with is air-conditioned sweaty obese people with maxed-out credit cards, lapsed gym memberships and Pajeros that stink of take-away.

Which will fail first, their 10ft plasma or their heart?

Anyone that tells me that it is cheaper to eat out here is clearly delusional or quite stark staring mad.

My take-away choice? Our local burger/pizza/whatever joint, not a big name (local couple have owned it forever) but you can sit down and eat a freshly-cooked relatively healthy pizza customised exactly to your liking ...

LOL - a quality question worthy of an in depth response.

Melbourne, as the cultural capital of Australia has a wide and satisfying range of take aways, from gourmet burgers to authentic Thai to great Indian to fresh fish and chips (flake, anyone?), to pie and chips to Malaysian, to west african dishes, superb Italian pizza / pasta / risotto, greek and turkish souvlakis... the liost is endless...

as for the quality, well it is the same as any where else, you get some rubbish ones and you get some great ones. Just go back to the great ones...

Dont expect Chicken Tikka Masala, but. They don't even serve that in India!!!

:( I'm gonna miss the good indian food here - I suppose I could always pop up to Bankstown

Agreed. Coming from Australia to the UK, I've noticed that it's very difficult to find an authentic Chinese meal over here. Most of the "Chinese" food is tailored for British palates. I suspect most Poms haven't actually experienced real Chinese food.

Back home in Perth, it was not difficult to find genuine Chinese food; my favourites were Han's Cafe (I visited the outlets in Cannington and Morley Galleria) and the Dragon Garden restaurant in Bellvue.

In Tasmania (Launceston) I frequented the Hoong Fat, not just because the food was good, but also because the Chinese proprietors were friends of mine.

very true. ......these might be the same people that I"ve heard complain about sausages in Australia because Oz sausages contain 80% plus meat and not 40% EU pork like a dodgy sausage sold in Tesco..
