Re: TAFE or Uni
Hi
I would prefer a Uni degree if they had the course I wanted to do as a University degree is more highly regarded (or recognised) by employees, especially internationally.
Tafe has the advantage of offering courses that uni doesn't offer and the course are often more 'practical' based which is an advantage for many professions (for example photography or computing). Tafe also attracts a lot of students who are changing career paths or mature aged students. The course times are sometime planned in well to allow students to also work full-time or part time.
Despite the practical and real experience a Tafe student may gain, a university student may be given job priority as they have stronger and broader foundations.

Tafe shouldn't be any problem to apply for, as long as you can pay the course costs.
For Uni, foreign students often are allocated a contingent and sometimes have an advantage in getting good placement (providing that their quilifications are suitable) as the placement is financial rather than based high school 'points'. Unis actually like foreign students as they can earn more income and for this reason most Unis provide good information for foreign students and applying. Often you will find the infomation available online from the Universite websites.

May find that they either have to do a bridging course first or take year 12 to get Oz equivalent. We have to wait and get his certificates assessed before we'll know and they aren't available yet from the UK, so time will soon be running out for this years applications anyway. Its not as straight forward as you may think!
