Hi
Could someone shed some light on the best suburbs to live in Sydney
My factors are:
1. Good schools around ( primary to start off)
2. Safe for families
3. Good transport connection to city
4. Rent of townhouse ( 2-3 bedroom) not exceeding 320-330/pw
5. Asian amenities /restuarants available
Looking forward for your replies

Your biggest problem is going to be the rent you have available for the property that you would like. 330 per week is not likely to get you a 2-3 bed townhouse anywhere very close to the city, so if that is all you have to spend you will either need to sacrifice the good transport connection to the city and live further out, or compromise on the 'goodness' of the area.
I am not sure exactly what you mean by Asian amenities. http://www.domain.com.au/Public/Subu...earchTerm=2066 will give you a demographic breakdown of each suburb and may be of help to you.

Hi there,
Your best bet is probably to do some research and then come back with questions about specific suburbs, as you may get a lot of conflicting information about good/bad areas (horses for courses). However, I'd reiterate what's been said previously about the rental sum you've suggested being on the low side.
realestate.com.au provide a free suburb profile (and you can purchase detailed reports) at:

Chatswood has good Asian amenities, heaps of Chinese medicine stores, Asian food shops, Chinese and Yum Cha restaurants and good train into the city. Or any suburb surrrounding it would have access to the facilities I guess.
Lots of units (flats) but don't know about townhouses. Chatswood Primary has a good reputation. I think it is has about 50% Chinese population. I say Chinese, but it is probably mixed Asian. I just realised that you probably mean Indian do you? In Australia, Asian means Oriental. Which is it to be?

Chatswood would be well out of the OP's suggested price bracket though. For under $350 you'll pretty much only get a 2 bedroom (at most) unit. A three bedroom townhouse would be more like $600 per week. What you pay for being near a train station ...!
