Sydney sprawling westwards

PB Cut and paste alert
Employment in the construction industry may have peaked, though, with December figures showing a 19.9 per cent slump in advertised skilled job vacancies in that industry.
The biggest addition to the CBD this year is the giant World Tower on George Street, which will be completed in August. The 230-metre structure will be the tallest apartment building in the southern hemisphere.
Other major developments include the 45-floor office tower Latitude in the World Square complex and Civic Tower on top of the Masonic Centre in Goulburn Street.
The city's biggest public works project, the Cross City Tunnel, is more than a year away from completion. Construction will begin on the large ventilation stack on the eastern side of Darling Harbour in the next few months.
The biggest changes to Sydney's built environment will be in the west. Sydney's population grows by 50,000 a year, and a recent PRDnationwide research report estimated that 36,000 of those new residents would settle in western Sydney in 2004.
