Default Sydney snippets

I arrived in Sydney on 4th Feb and wrote up the stories from my first few
days up into emails to family and friends back in England and have now
posted them onto my website.

In short, it took me a day to find a flat (I'm single so I'm sharing an
apartment) overlooking Hyde Park. Not looking for work yet, I have enough
saved to keep me going for several months so I'm having a break first.

Anyway, the entries are at http://www.labrose.com with the most recent
ones at the top. Internet access has been spotty recently so I've not
updated it for a few days, since the Powerhouse museum I've:

* been to the Paddington market on Saturday
* to the Chinese New Year parade and the Rocks market on Sunday
* stayed up until 2am watching the football in a pub on Sunday night
* went to Coogee beach Monday
* picked up my ticket for Cockatoo Island and booked to go to the F1 Grand
Prix in Melbourne.

Hi Monkey,
i like your thread and love your website. u mention on your website that u go to a pub (hotel) in sydney to watch the premiership footy on a monday evening. what is the pub called and where is it in sydney? i am asking for my bf who is a mad man.utd fan (from manchester) who is going to miss the footy more than anything when we leave here on may 1st. Do they show the footy at a lot of pubs in sydney? I also read on one of your entries on your website that u watched this weekends derby match between man.city and man.utd, do they show the live games as well in many places in sydney? What kind of work do u do and what work are u looking for in sydney? I guess your an IT person. My bf works in IT, programming or something like that, r there many jobs about in sydney? I will keep reading your website entries. have fun. cant wait till i'm in sydney too. 11 weeks and counting every day.
I like your entry about what u ate b4 leaving the UK-strange combinations. I think we will be doing the same when we get down to our last tins, packets etc.
cheers for now

Hi threlly,

The premiership highlights are on Foxtel (like Sky) for an hour on Monday
nights - I go to the pub right across the road from me but I reckon pubs
in most areas would show it (I have to ask them to change the channel as
they always have the wrong sport one on but no-one ever minds).

For the live match I went to Cheers (http://www.cheersbar.com.au) on
George Street. I've been told this is OK for the midnight and 2am matches
but closes before the 4am ones (i.e. 5pm Saturday) are on. For those my
flatmate says another bar called Scruffy Murphy's
(http://www.scruffymurphys.com.au/) is open (it's open 24/7) but is a bit
grim. There's a lot of pubs in central Sydney with Foxtel, I imagine
outside of the CBD and in rural areas it might be more of a struggle.

Yeah, I work in I.T. (when I can raise the enthusiasm to start job
hunting!). I do sysadmin work though - web servers, databases etc.
Prospects look pretty good at the moment - lots of ads, a couple of
agencies I've spoken to are struggling for decent candidates. Of course it
could all turn out to be wrong when I start looking... I'm feeling
confident though. This is the lifestyle I've always wanted and will be
pretty motivated to get the right job to keep it going.
