Default Sydney-Short term holiday accommodation.

We are intending to visit Sydney this Jan for a few days midweek with our pensioner parents (they are mobile and quite fit). We also have a son who is 3yrs old.

Can anyone recommend reasonably priced, decent, clean accommodation which is well placed to access the main tourist sites.

We are thinking of doing the usual touristy things, that is, bridge climb, tour of the opera house, botanical gardens, the rocks etc. Can anyone suggest any other things to do or see, family friendly places to eat (that are still decent and NOT Mackers type places) etc.

Jetstar looks pretty booked up but thinking of booking with virgin blue - do you still get a discount if you book as a tourist instead of someone currently residing in Australia?

Thanks lovely people
Caroline

Hi Caroline,

We stayed in an apartment in Darling Harbour through these guys

You could go on the ferry to Manly, or up river to Parramatta. There were lots of nice restaurants round the harbour.

Thanks. Just booked. Apparently, it's been refurbished.

I wasn't thinking of hiring a car. Is it pretty easy to take the ferry and use public transport & taxi's to get around?

We used the public transport last time when we were on holiday, we travelled with ur 1 year old kid, it was good, you have a day tripper pass for 15.40$ which gives allows you to make unlimited trips using train, bus or the ferry. this is valid for a day and also you have the option to bug red/pink/yellow/purple pass for a week or more , for more details you can refer http://www.cityrail.info/fares/travelpass.jsp, hope this helps
