I've been looking for Haagen Daz and Ben and Jerry too but haven't seen them anywhere. Would be interested to know why. One thing I've read from the web is that Unilever makes Ben and Jerry icecream this part of the world but they already have other brands that they sell in Australia so they don't do Ben and Jerry.

You definately don't get Ben & Jerrys. I did their factory tour thing when I was in the US last year and I asked if they had any Australian franchises, but not a one. :-(

Hi Alex,

how is life in Sydney? All settled in?

According to the Haagen Daz website, there are no Haagen Daz cafes in Australia. But, their products may be sold in supermarkets/other shops? Why not drop them an email and ask: http://www.haagen-dazs.com/coicou.do

I think they would be too expensive. What are they in the UK 5 pounds a Tub? Convert that into AUD and it's $13, don't think people here would pay that for ice cream.

We had soooo much Ben and Jerry ice cream when we went back last xmas

New Zealand Natural Ice Cream (sold in Oz) is a pretty good alternative to Haagen Dazs IMO but not up to the standard of B&Js.

That's why I'm making my own ice-cream and sorbet these days as I can't afford premium quality stuff here either...

Lucky for me, if I want BnJ or Haagen Dazs, I can just jump on a flight to HK to visit my folks, not quite a 24 hour journey like going to good old Blighty. They always have Haagen Dazs in the freezer - not the prepacked stuff from the supermarket, but the fresher family size tubs from the Haagen Dazs shops/cafes... All this talk of ice-cream is making me drool...

Do they do "Rum and Raisin" and "Cookies and Cream" flavours? I miss those loads...

How do you make your own ice-cream? Did you buy an ice-cream maker? Do you have an ice-cream recipe book?

Quite easily depending on the ingredients. Yes. Yes, comes with ice-cream maker (Sunbeam Gelateria - 1 litre per batch), also use the web for more recipes.

Try Gelatissimo instead, that seems to be the Australian equivalent. They used to do a lovely English trifle flavour but haven't seen it for a while. Not come across anything quite as nice as strawberry cheesecake HD.
