Sydney CBD after-work drink meet up

I was wondering whether anyone has ever successfully organised a Sydney CBD meet up before? Nothing too complicated, just an after work drink or something

Me and the OH have been in Sydney for around 4 months now & quite fancy meeting some more people. I figured that there are probably lots of thirsty people working in the CBD who might be free for an after-work drink.

Does anyone fancy it?

I do. I have to come through the CBD on my way home, so a stop off for a swift (or longer) ale is always good. When did you have in mind?

Myself and some others have been meeting semi-regularly on a Thursday evening at 6pm in Strattons bar on Castlereagh Street, and will no doubt be meeting there this Thursday coming. Feel free to drop in if you want, or we could arrange something earlier in the week.

Strattons Bar on Thursday sounds good - we'll definitely come along this week if you're meeting this week. I'll send you a PM to confirm.

If people are interested in organising another meet-up, we could do this too. I don't have a particular time/place in mind, I was just wondering what the interest levels were like. So if you're keen, do say so.

Me again! I'm always up for anything that involves getting out and having a few beers. Weeknights or weekends, I'm fairly flexible...

There are some nice CBD bars, so we should try and get something together. Maybe arrange a bit of a crawl around some of them?

Any takers?

A Saturday night meet-up would also be good. When are people free? Personally, I can only make Saturday 21st October, after that I'm not free again until Saturday 18th November...(off on hols, lucky me!) but you guys go ahead if that makes things difficult. There's always next time!

Re: Sydney CBD after-work drink meet up

For those of you coming to Strattons Bar on Castlereagh Street, Sydney CBD this evening, I will be there from 6.

I am about 5'8" with dark brown, short spiky hair. I will probably have glasses on unless I lose them today. But most of all I will be wearing a black and grey monochrome Union Jack short sleeved shirt, so that should give you a clue. I may even wear a Swer-O name badge too...

I have had a number of PM's from members asking if they can come - of course you can - it's open to one and all. If everyone that has contacted me shows up, then we should have about 10-12 people, so it should be a good evening.

Looking forward to meeting you all later.

Just a quick thanks to all the folks that made it to the Strattons CBD meet last night for food and drinks.

For those that didn't make it, we got about 11 people in all, including a very bewildered looking American, whose name I plainly didn't know...

We shall probably do the same thing again next week, but at a different venue I imagine, so I will let you know when I think of somewhere.

Thanks again,

S

Well done Swerv-o for organising such a brilliant night, none of us could have come close to doing such a marvellous job, if only we had as much talent as you at organising meet ups. Please continue the great work, we wouldn't be able to come close to matching your skills in this area and so must continue to be grateful for your sterling efforts instead. (That is more or less what you told me to write, isn't it?) ;)

I'm glad too.

Right - the bash on the 21st then. I would suggest The Belgian Beer Cafe on Miller street - it's fantastic - and they serve Leffe - I've had a great night out every time that I've been. Great food, great beer - a perfect combination...

Have a look here and let me know what you think:

Sam and I don't have anything planned, so I expect we'll be able to make it. and the Bewildered looking American was Nick, who looked even more bewildered when you started into your Dalek impressions.

poor guy.

Oh I knew who he was, but I had completely forgotten his name, so I cunningly looked at the business card he gave me the night before. Unfortunately, he workd for a company called David Brown, so, yes you guessed it, I introduced him as David... Doh.

I don't seem to remember the Daleks making an appearance last night. I usually save them until I know people better. Hmm. Judging by the size of the hangover I had this morning, I suspect I drank rather more than I should have.

I can tell you what you got up to (in terms of volume of alcohol) by 8.30pm, although a plate of fish and chips at 8.25pm probably complicates the physics.... (yes physics). Not that I was watching or anything.....

Thanks for organising the bash Swerv-o. We darted off to the Asian noddle festival in Hyde Park afterwards.. first day it's really been warm enough to sit outside for any length of time.

Chels, Katharineis and co, good to meet you. We'll try to make another Thursday night, although 21st is out... will be getting on a plane to somewhere exotic.

Well Multimap says it's halfway between Cammeray and Crows Nest, but I don't remember it being so far from the City when I went before. I'm sure it was much closer. Infact, I'm sure that we walked from there to the Shangri-la

Maybe there is more than one Belgian bar? I find that difficult to believe. Belgium isn't that great!

Yes, that sounds more like it. Who would have thought there would have been 2 belgian bars? Well I never. Anyway, it's pretty good, though I have obviously posted the wrong web site now, so that will no doubt come back to bite me in the bum.

There's a Belgian beer place on the edge of the Rocks - just a stone's throw from Wynyard Bus Station. Then there's a newly opened Bavarian place on York Street. Both good, but if you have a big party, you'll need to book.

Right then, so that's the Belgian Beer place (near The Rocks, not Cammeray) for the 21st of October. That's this weekend! Yikes!

Is anybody around for another Thursday meet this week? If so, we should try and find another venue I think.

What kind of place do you have in mind? Trendy? Old farts? Backpackers? Comfy seats? Banging music? Indoors? Outdoors? Beers? Cocktails? Happy hours? $6 steaks?
