Swimmer drives with shark on leg

Re: Swimmer drives with shark on leg
bondipom was snorkelling the other day looking for wobbegongs - now he will know what to do if one takes a liking to him
Actually, I am more intrigued why the shark attacked, did the snorkeller touch it or stand on it by mistake? The 'frilly' mouth can be deciving - there are very sharp teeth hidding behind it.

I saw one episode when Steve Irwin pulled one by the tail. The little thing looped round and bit Steve Irwin. I look and don't touch.

Re: Swimmer drives with shark on leg
The waters are full of those wobbgongs around here. I usually get hooked up to them over at Mud island .. stealing my bait.
For anyone who wants to see them close up - Straddie Island at amity point. I went for a swim off the boat ramp there year before last (there's a big drop off from the boat ramp, very rocky) - and a wobbegong came shooting up from around the corner next to me ( it was over 5 foot long, quite a big one - biggest I've seen so far) - I soon got out of the water - pretty sharpish (much to hubby's amusement - he wasn't in the water, so he thought it was funny) - we then stood on the boat ramp feeding it fish, and another one came around . seems they are residents over there - coming in for scraps from the boats. The diving schools usually dive along this wall for this reason.. to see the wobbegongs amongst other things.
They are usually very placid sharks if left alone - but they have been known to amputate divers feet (mistaken a flipper for a fish) - they do have quite a mouth full of razor sharp teeth
cheers

Submit to IOC and Commonwealth Games for inclusion in 2006 and 2008?--- Two-legged shark-carry race maybe?
