Question Surviving on $68500 PA in Perth Could We??

Hi Guys

Is there anyone living in Perth or heading to Perth to work for a salary of $68500 PA or less and surviving with children. I would really love to hear your thoughts and views we have three children, My OH is being sponsored on a 457 which would enable me to work BUT I have read on another forum that it is so difficult to find a job in Australia, there seem to be lots of British Women going out and unable to find a job say in Admin because they do not have experience of the Australian software. So we need to know could we survive on OH salary only with three young children if we have to or should we ditch the dream and stay. Will Australia be better for our children even with little money??

Any comments and thoughts welcome!!!

Thank you for your reply Sam, how do you find it surviving on this salary with children? where are you living in Australia, We are looking to rent somewhere in Secret Harbour the costs I believe are around $3-400 Per Week without any other costs so a really tight budget.

Hi All,

Damn is this true?

What software do they have, I assumed (probably wrongly) that everyone is using Microsoft.

Does any one recommend getting to grips with other software? My background is admin/accounts, any insight into these areas would be great.

Thanks all

M

Might be worth starting a new thread to find out. I know I'd be interested as I all I know is Microsoft!

Yes,
and I would have thought office work would be similar computer eg windows, office, excel etc.

We are on 457 visa and managing on one salary and have kids. Kids are very happy and having great time.

I got the first office job I applied for, I do reception/admin in a physio office, I have had similar experience and the relevant qualifications.

We use some software specific to our industry (patient details) but also windows office stuff.

I think if you aim for jobs that you are experienced in and your cv is tailored to that job then you shouldn't have too much trouble finding something.

There are loads of jobs in Saturdays West Australian.

Easy to be honest and this is a combined wage

where are you living in Australia,
Up in the hills of Perth

We are looking to rent somewhere in Secret Harbour the costs I believe are around $3-400 Per Week without any other costs so a really tight budget.

Worry about the rent when you get here...you will find that things on web sites (EA ones) are and can be different to real life out here......we rented for $250 a week in Kalamunda (unheard of people say...impossible people say) but we did it! (this was a 4 x1 too)

We do many different things to socialise to what we did in the UK....many things are free here so make is easier and different for us

I worried and stressed just like you before we came

to answer your last question

my children have a far better quality of life here then in the UK....we spend more family time together exploring and discovering ourselves as well as our new country

We attend local meets like the Kings Parks ones (which i help organise)

We off road with friends and meet new friends doing so (eh Lew ) things we would not have even considered doing in UK

Come...explore and discover....its the only way

Hi All,

Just had a quick look on an Aussie recruitment site, and whilst accountancy jobs are probably counted out as their software is different, lots of the admin jobs quoted experience required in Microsoft packages.

Will probably have to settle for a lower salary but if that means less stress then I'm all for that.

Thanks all

Ok, I for one want to be realistic. One salary and childern on 68k GROSS will be a tough ask. Don't get me wrong it can be done - what I am saying is you will need savings on you when you get here. Of course finding job will be difficult but with little luck - you start working and it will get heaps easy.

So, in short - when anyone here says 'Yes' it's manageable, it really means just living and not much of a luxury. Rents in Perth are sky high for instance. Children no matter what want to be care free. Your own lifestyle will play a part too.

So please do appropriate research. I could live in Perth with my wife on 68k Gross, but that does not mean any other couple could. It is entirely dependant on what one wants and how they live.....

I assume tho - to start off with you guys will have some savings when you come over and will manage in one salary ......

Sam sounds great, thank you for being so positive it gives me hope

How long does it take to go into Perth from where you live? Do you have good schools for the children?? you see we could not decide to live in the country or 40 mins from beach (Secret Harbour) just need to find affordability and really good schools.

Thank you once again your advice is much appreciated!!!!

Thank you Shirley again sounds positive, you are soo lucky where did you find your job advertised? I am soo worried after reading the posts on the other forum stating that Australia employed the most over qualified cleaners, because apparently all these qualified ladies could not even get a foot in the door for Admin jobs and they even tried local supermarkets, I really started to panic, at least it looks as though I may have a glimmer of hope
I guess I would be prepared to work almost anywhere you have to if you need the money.

I could not even get a cleaning job as I had no experience (have only being cleaning up after a husband and 2 kids for years!) and no references.
I am doing a free computer course that is being run by our local TAFE for back to work mom's next year. It is run during school hours which is great.
I have also applied to do a free childcare course that is being offered as there is a real shortage of childcare workers.

Not 100% sure on this, but I think on a 457 visa you will have school fees to pay, just something else you will need to budget for.

i think its about 25 mins to cbd but sh is about 40 personally i would look to living nr sam in the country rather that sh

the country is beautiful and i personally find sh to be a soul less place

yep where sam lives there are good schools and shops

good luck on your move here

$68,000 is mangable if you shop cheaply and tighten your belts

just a question do you or is your employer paying for your private health cover? and are you getting laha?

do look in to getting laha it would boast your money somewhat

tiff

you only have to pay school fees in nsw not perth - you pay what everyone pays which is the parental contibution
