Hi Florida 3

do you happen to know what the prospects are for nurses on the Sunshine coast at the moment? My wife is hoping to get work in the Caloundra area, but after contacting hospitals there and in Nambour recently, she drew a blank. when we were there last year the general view was that finding a job as a nurse would be no problem.

Regards

Andy

The Queensland Government...elected for the people by the people is screwing the people. Nurses, police, teachers have all been through the cut-back grinder. Strikes in these areas have been prevalent. I understand if you're an RN, jobs are around. You may have more luck at a biiger hospital like Royal Brisbane, Princess Alexandria. Plenty of retirement villages springing up...they are also looking for nurses.

www.careerone.com.au has ads from the regional newspapers.

Child care is one of THE growth industries in Australia. As Government makes it harder and harder to live on one wage, more and more women are forced back to work leaving the poor kiddies stranded in child care. You should not have a problem but conditions and wages are not that great.

As for marine work what do you mean? Fishing, boat construction, maintenance, engineer, marine biologist?

hi
moving to brisbane soon-with hubbie and 3 kids. Have no relatives or friends there !
Any idea of places to rent, or go to when we first get off the airoplane?
Looking at 'maybe' morayfield, narangba, or samford areas as an initial base for a few weeks while we view areas in detail before deciding exactly where to settle.
thx
wendy

Ah Morayfield...what a lovely spot...bit damp at the moment however. Both Narangba and Morayfield are on the main North rail line into Brisbane so if you are vehicularly challenged you can still get into the city area. Also both are on the main Northern (Bruce) highway. Rentals in both these areas are plentiful...expect to pay around $180 for 3 bed house, $200 for 4 bed. Short term rents are hard to find..Motel is probably best bet for a short stay.

You can catch a train direct from the Airpiort to Narangba, Morayfield and Caboolture. From Airport change at Eagle Junction and catch a Caboolture train.
Morayfield is 50 min into the Brisbane CBD, Narangba slightly less. Samford is a little rural village much less housing opportunities and not on a rail line. Nice place but probably not the most ideal base.

The Northern corridor from Brisbane is booming and there are plenty of nice areas but I am biased to Morayfield (which is really just part of Caboolture) the public transport, proximty to Bribie Island, Sunshine Coast and Brisbane, plenty of shops, and affordable housing.

The Sunshine Coast is not renowned for it's large boat construction. There is South Pacific Marine www.spmarine.com.au based in Burpengary. The other large boat builders are all on the Brisbane river, at Hemmant, Bulimba etc.

thx florida
i spent 5 weeks in QLD last year - loved it -so did the kids. i visited samford (tim sorrell actually-he does a nice BBQ !!) and many other places. We r looking for a village type atmostphere, but reasonably close to ammenities. Unfortunately we were not really looking to emigrate at that time otherwise we would have paid more attention to things. However, we decided its the life we think we want !
