I don't think it was a dedicated thread on Yorkshire Puddings more of a wander from the original topic to recipes for them...........

Ohhh for Yorkshire Pud, no matter how hard I try I cannot get them to rise, they are as flat as a pancake, but taste good. Any tips??

Try using plain flour instead of self raising, it sounds stoopid but yorkshire puds work the other way round.

The secret to home made puds is the oil, it has to be hot very hot as you pour it into the moulds. Also, when making the batter up, leave it to stand for an hour in the fridge:)

Erm, judging by the number of flaming questions we get on here about gravy, it's not an Aussie thing, it's a British thing as well. Totally beyond me but I guess it takes all sorts.

I think you've got the wrong nation Champ. Poms on here are obsessed with the chemical shite also know as Bisto. They are the ones throwing the meat juices away and using a substitute.

WANTED gravy that tastes like gravy, not some brownish slippy sludge. Never made our own with the meat juices never intend to either:rofl:
Didn't realise a question about gravy would create such a reaction:eek:

Then why do you want to use Bisto?

Bisto is better than Gravox though.

Wouldn't know and don't care as I would use neither.

Have had it a couple of times at my nans many years ago, it was nice with corn flour added to it, but it is not something we want in our house just the speed of instant please, and a good one at that.
Side question: who muses instant coffee over made from beans, and why?

Ignoring the first bit because it truly depressed me, I don't actually understand your question

My question is simple, if so many find the idea of instant gravy a turn off, then i wondered just how many like instant coffee to making your own from beans and a grinder? Just like instant garedn peas to fresh, at the end of the day it's down to individual choice, and we prefer instant just that you can't get the 'good' stuff here just grubby water:)
How did the first part of my last reply 'truly' depress you please?

Frozen peas are fresh, tinned are feral. Instant coffee is crap but I don't have a coffee machine at home as I can't afford one so needs must. Only have one coffee a day when at home.

This statement depresses me simply because it does. The whole thing about having 'apparently' real gravy a couple of times made with corn flour and thinking it nice is truly sad in my opinion and to say it's not something you want in your house, like cockroaches almost is even sadder - my view only. As you say, it's a personal choice, you get saddened by lack of gravy powder, I get saddened by people being saddened by lack of gravy powder. No biggy in the grand scheme of things.
