Default Sunbury and Werribee Melbourne

Can someone give an opinion on what the Sunbury and Werribee areas of Melbourne are like please? I have done a quick real estate search and the value for money looks good.
I have a chance of a job in this area of Melbourne and would be taking my wife and two young daughters. Any info would be appreciated, in particular to the housing, what is it like for schools (catholic), children's activities, and public transport.
Thanks in anticipation.

They are a fair way from each other ...and both are quite away from the City.

The housing is cheap, as the areas they are in are not as popular as others...also re the distance.

Don't know Sunbury...just seen the sign for it by the airport.
Werribee is ok, but in my own opinion, nothing special..... if you want to live away from the City, there are far nicer areas.

This is just my opinion based on nearly 3 yeas of living here

Where is your job? Sunbury and Werribee aren't really anywhere near to each other

Sunbury has a train service to Melbourne and is on the met rather than vline service. Lots of houses there, population has increased rather rapidly, it is a popular place to live especially if you work around the airport. Perhaps let us know where your job is. I live just the other side of Sunbury in a small town, there are lots of lovely places out this way if you prefer country living

The job starts in Werribee then transfers to Sunbury which is why I mentioned both places.

I am originally from Melbourne and yes definitely far better value in the western suburbs, in my opinion a lot more culturally interesting and still close to the city e.g. 30 minutes b ypublic transport.

Re. Sunbury vs Werribee am sure there must be a cross bus route and may find via http://home.alphalink.com.au/~parkerp/meltrip.htm

Could be suburbs in between that fit for both.

Hi Neil

I live in Sunbury with my husband and 2 teenage girls. We think it's a great area, lots of socialising, lots of friends. Great for the kids. 30-40 mins from the city or beach. Good value for money re housing.

Some very good Catholic primary schools, my kids go to the Catholic Secondary School - Salesian College Rupertswood: www.scr.vic.edu.au It is a private school but the fees are very reasonable compared to other private schools around here.

There's plenty of sporting activities & clubs for the kids, tennis club, footy & soccor clubs, athletics, basketball, aquatic centre, multi screen cinema, etc, etc.

Hope this helps, let me know if you want anymore info on the area.

Good Luck
AJ

Werribee doesnt have the best reputatons in the western suburbs, though there are some nice ones quite close to it, there are also lots of schools in and around that area, very easy to get to the city, about 30 mins on the highway, though a lot longer in rush hour, no idea where Sunbury is tho, sorry

Sunbury was mentioned above..

There is one really nice suburb in the west ...Williamstown ...but you'll pay for it....and it can get touristy in the summer. I lived there in my first year here.

Don't by-pass Yarraville though ... it's got some really nice parts too.
