You also have to bear in mind that it is now officially Bush Fire season. There have been a couple of controlled burns down our way over the last couple of weeks by the fire brigade....at least, I hope it was them
So I'm sure that will be contributing to the 'smog' you keep seeing.

ps, don't you just love the road side signs that tell you the fire risk for today??!!
