We are also looking at Melbourne and saw a previous post about an area called Point Cook which looks a nice area.

We are probably going to rent for about 2yrs to make sure that we know we want to stay and the area we would like to live in.

The above links are some that I have looked at, it should give you an indication of price etc.

You never know we might see you there!

We don't have a pool but would have loved one during the last summer - it was hot! Thankfully we have friends around the corner who let us swim in theirs. Don't know of the actual stats but think less than half households would have a pool here.
So many different suburbs it is hard to offer advice. What are you looking for? Bayside? Hills? Big block?

Why would everyone have a pool? Not exactly sunny in melbourne right now. Must be the Australian dream you're after??? Pools are more of a luxury in Melbourne as weather isn't all year round sunshine.
Good and bad areas, would recommend you have a look around for yourself as mainly is down to personal opinions. I like Werribee but plenty slate it as a smelly place . So is best to find cheap short term rental or stay with friends/family and have a good look about.
Prices vary from area to area. Some areas can get 3 bed for less than $200,000 others areas you'd struggle to get a small apartment for that. Get on with lots of research it's worth the effort

Melbourne temps are a lot different to anything more northern. As the OP's have already mentioned, pools are more of a luxury in Vic.

Having said that, its top of the wifes "must haves" when we look at houses.

She might be willing to slum it if it only has a jacuzzi instead.
