Default Student Visa/ETA

Hi all - sorry silly question, but if anyone is able to help we would appreciate it.

We have received our Student Visas this week. We are allowed to arrive in Australia at the beginning of November (part of this visa requirement is that you cannot arrive any sooner than 12 weeks prior to the start of your course). Can anyone advise us if we would be able to get an ETA so we can arrive in October and would we be allowed to let our Student Visa kick-in without having to leave and re-enter Australia?

Many thanks.

If you have a student visa:
- you can't get an ETA; and
- if you got a regular tourist visa it would cancel your ETA.

The 12 week restrictions isn't something I'm familiar with (I don't know much about student visas) - ask on the immigration forum to see if there's any work-around.
