Hi - I'm applying for a student visa in UK and will have the medical over here but there's a possibility I may be on hol in Oz whilst my visa application is being processed. Does anyone know whether I will have to return to the UK and then fly back to Oz to trigger my student visa or can I do it from within Oz as chances are I may be in the country at the time it is awarded? What is the procedure?

You can apply for it in Oz. Might be a bit more simple, and save you doing the trip again. You can apply in UK 4 months before the course starts, or 3 months before from inside Oz. I believe it is very quick to do in Oz (same day I think). You may have had to have had your medicals done in Oz though? Would need looking into.

I have just applied for my place on a horticulture course in perth, course starts feb 08. I already have flights booked for december as it was originally a holiday not steying on student visa. But would it be easier for me to apply for the student visa while in oz or do it before i go?

Not sure of the exact procedure, but was recently granted my student visa. Any emails they sent advised me not to travel to Australia before the visa was granted, as I would have to lodge and pay for a new onshore student visa application.
