Default Stop overs

Just looking at flights to Perth and wondering if anyone has any recommendations re stopovers, as we didn't bother last time.

As the cheapest flights seem to be with Malaysian airlines has anyone had a stopover in Kuala Lumpur and what was it like?

Any advice???

Thanks

Loopy

we havent stopped over but intend to when we go later on this year - the beauty of it is you get a free stopover and if you justb want to do it for the night - then there are a few airports on site - because apparently it is quite a distance is the centre from the airport. if you use keyword airport hotel in kuala lumpar it will bring up the hotels - think there is 3 and they do special deals - something like £20 for dinner, bed and breakfasts -if you need exact web site address i will find it for you

Last time we flew to nsw we stopped over at Japan airport and I will be doing this again

The hotel is 2min walk from the airport

And it is nice to be getting into bed after a 12hour flight
Have a nights sleep and then you are all refreshed for the next leg of your journey

if you bank with the commonwealth bank they are doing special deals for migrants flying with quanta’s they were asking about £400 to Perth and if it is your first flight since getting your visa you get 40Kg baggage allowance per person

Have spent a lot of time Kuala Lumpur with my work. Fantastic Place!!! Really nice city with lots of excellent, cheap hotels, and plently to do in KL, beer a bit pricy though.

If you have time I would spend a couple of days there, and probably do some shopping there, would imagine it's a lot cheaper than Oz, especially electrical goods.

We went to Brisbane last year, and flew with Singapore Airlines. Stopped over on the way there at Changi for 10 hours, and got a hotel room in the airport (you can book in 3 hour blocks), so didn't collect bags, but was good for recharging batteries and freshen up before next leg. On the way back we spent 24 hours in Singapore, so went into the city. It was OK, but I preferred the shorter stop out of the two, and Changi airport has plenty to do within it.

British Aiyways/Qantas do a stop over in Japan it's a great city - try and make it 2/3 days if you can get the time. Other alternatives are South Africa - but leave out Johanesburg try Cape Town or Durban. Also of course Hong Kong and Singapore and also Bangkok are excellent stop over points.

Hi Loopy,

My parents have done a stopover in KL on one of their visits to UK and really enjoyed it. Can't remember the name of their hotel but could find it out. If my mum liked it, it can't be too bad (sorry mum!)

We are leaving UK in August and have decided to go via USA for a month. We figured that all our return trips to UK will be via Asia and we will have the opportunity to stop over then which is why we've opted for the other way.
Good luck and have fun whichever way you go.

Did you know you get a free internal flight with Malaysian, you can fly to any of the islands and stay there for a stopover.

We've made stopovers in KL a couple of times. Also Singapore and Bangcok. We stay for 3-4 days but have stayed a week before.

These are great places to visit, so incredibly different from anything you will see in the UK, anywhere in Europe, the US or any Westernised country.

The experience is relatively cheap, the hotels are virtually all 4 or 5 star, and the people are friendly. As a bonus you arrive fresher in Aus than you would flying straight through.

Yes, I would definately recommend a stopover with my favorite place being Bangcok followed by KL and then Singapore.

Bangcok? It nearly looks obscene. It's Bangkok

Bangkok has excellent food - if you like spicy stuff.

The KL airport is miles away from civilization.

The Bangkok "air" is pretty spicy too. Count on washing your clothes 3 times before the smell of rotten sewers is expunged.

Stay over in Bangkok - stay at the Indra Regent away from the main city but still very busy. about 200 shops and stalls around the hotel and lots of good food (cooked in the hotel kitchens) sold in local cafe's at a good price. Excellent bargain price on the internet site.

Yes OK please excuse my speelling. The food is not exclusively spicey.

As I recall, the bus ride from the KL airport took about 40 mins.

Singapore, KL and Bangkok are all great places to stop over. Singapore is pretty expensive compared to the other two. There can be some bargain shopping done in KL and BKK - after 5pm there is China Town in city centre KL and in BKK there is all day shopping at stalls along the road sides on Sukhumvit and Silom Roads (except Wednesdays). The big difference between the three is that Singapore is clinically clean where as the other two are not. The food in all three places is fantastic.
