Just would prefer to fly with Sing

After 10 Hours on a plane, they're going to be tired, ratty and thoroughly obnoxious - for goodness sake have a stopover, and get some sleep (if you are flyng Singapore airlines - they have some good deals on stopovers) because there's no way you are going to keep them happy ;)

Re: STOP OVER IN SIN

We stopped over in Singapore for our last trip in March. We have three kids who were 1, 4 and 5 at the time. They loved Changi airport, we had a room in the Ambassador transit hotel (http://www.airport-hotel.com.sg) in the airport where we all slept for a couple of hours, showered and then played on the play park and swam in the fabulous open air pool. We found it an excellent way to break up the flight and chill out for a bit. it's not particularly expensive and well worth it.

We are flying back out in a weeks time and are planning to do exactly the same again. We will be there for about 8 hours. I can't recommend this option enough, especially if you are only there for a few hours.

There are tons of threads on this - what's to do in the airport, lounge and shower facilities, where to stay on a stopover, etc. Have a search and I'm sure you'll find lots of good info.

SIN may be the airport code but I've never heard anybody call the city state that. :) Alternatives include:

The Lion City - translation of the Malay "Singapura" ('cos you do all know Singapore is rightfully Malay...)
The Garden City - see how they do up the roads from the airport especially for you visitors?
Singers - not really. Bit naff, old bean. And please take off that safari suit; you look like a hotel doorman.
Sin City - perhaps (if you know where to look for it ;) ).
S'pore - maybe; heard it more from young locals than foreigners.
Sg - often used, especially if you're typing it.
The Airconned Nation - slightly derogatory term but suits.
Disneyland with the Death Penalty - 'nuff said.

Or - you could be totally rad and call it "Singapore".

Quote "If you're only going to be there for 3-5 hours, then you won't want to clear customs, you'll just want to stay in the transit/departures lounge".

I know, it was a real pain, but we didn't seem to have any choice thanks to officious staff! I just thought I'd mention it in case anyone else is going to do the same thing and has visions of strolling around shops waiting to board again.

Thats because my quesion was only about the airport. I seached others threads, but they are all about to stop over or not. Not what the airport has to offer and if it is actually useable (ie not just for business / 1st class paying pax).

Thanks for the helpfull replies folks. The 5-6 six hour stop looks good for us. As we are just going on a recce, down want to loose to much Oz time.

If we go for the 3 to 5 hour stop, is there anything to do for kids. Somewhere for a shower etc.
Or do we get a room for a night, but again is there much to do to de-stress kids.

Then again if anyone thinks another transit airport is better than Sin, please let me know.:)

Sorry, just running past. Not sure if this link has been posted yet...

We are looking into this for us (whenever that might be!)

Hope it works for you

Just booked flights and stop over with Singapore airlines. 4 days, 3 nights then on to Brisbane.

Booked with Singapore Airlines (after booking with their flights, log back in using your flight details to book stopover deal).

Staying at the 'Swissotel The Stamford Singapore', large central skyscraper hotel, was able to select high floor room so hopefully we have nice view over city.

Total cost for 2 adults = £379
Includes;
-Hotel 3 nights, and extra half day(£50)
-Transport to and from airport(£35)
-Stopover deal incentives.

Apologies, MLU. I think there are threads out there - although maybe with spurious titles - and also PPs who answered your question. Just my :o clumsy attempt at some lighthearted trivia on a subject that comes up more often than I've had hot Laksa.
