I think we will probably stop off for a few days on the way. Not sure where yet but possibly Singapore.

Re: Stop off or not to stop off...

I'm probably in a minority as I'd been over to Aus three times before I emigrated (my sister's here) so wasn't quite so desperate to get here.

I went 'the other way round', brought my mum for the ride and we stopped off in New York, Las Vegas, Hawaii and Sydney for three nights each before we eventually arrived in Adelaide. My mum stayed for a month then went back via Singapore but didn't stopover.

It was a fantastic trip and we enjoyed every minute, I booked us good hotels and excursions in each place (including a day visit to the Grand Canyon - awesome!) so it was like having four mini holidays!

If you can afford it and have the time I'd go for the stop overs while you've got the opportunity; once you're in work it might be difficult to get time off for a while and your money's all spoken for.

Good luck,

Elaine :)

ditto!

I called them yesterday to ask them this as we wanted to stop off for a few days and they said no extra baggage allowance if you are leaving the airport, yes they will let you on the plane at UK airport with the extra baggage but not from Singapore to Australia if you do not fly straight on (can stay over night in airport though), this has pi**ed me off as we think we will prob not stop over now as we need the extra allowance.

Sheils any idea who told you you could have the extra as I would like to contact them, Thanks.

Hi

We are stopping off at Singapore, and the rep at the end of the phone e-mailed us a letter, saying we had extra allowance through to Perth even with stop over, worth asking as it doesn't hurt.

We are looking forward to family down time, after the good byes.

Hope this helps :D

Definatley stop off - don't waste the opportunity of relatively easily seeing another country.

We did 2 nights in Singapore on the way to Melbourne on our reccy, and 3 nights in Singapore on the way back. Singapore is AWSOME and I would love to go back.

When we move to Melbourne in September, we thought - bugger it. We've worked none-stop for years and years, and once settled in Oz we'll no doubt be at the grindstone again for years to come. So, we took a little equity from the house and we are going via

Boston
New York
Philly
DC
Vegas
Death Valley
Yosemite
San Francisco
Peru ( Inca Trail hike, Machu Pichu & Amazon Jungle )
Los Angeles
New Zealand
Melbourne

We're spending 8 weeks getting to Melbourne, and we're looking forawrd to it immensly. We've never travelled like that before, and doubt we'll have the opportunity, time or money to ever do it like this again - so bollox to it., we're off on a hell of an adventure.

There's a great big world out there to explore, you have the rest of your lives to settle in Australia, just enjoy the ride.

We are doing 2 stopovers, a week in Dubai and a week in Singapore. We feel that these last few weeks are going leave us emotional wrecks so we need something to look forward to. I think it will make it a bit easier on the kids too with a holiday planned as well as breaking up the long journey and easing the jet lag. :)

Cheers.

7 weeks today until we leave! It's still surreal, like it's someone else that we're counting down for.

Bring it on!
