A Statistical View of Britain
Thought you might be interested in the following article published in Today's Daily Mirror
"Britons are turning into fat drug users propped up by anti-depressants, a survey said yesterday. Statistics paint a bleak picture of a neurotic nation beset by rising cases of sexual disease, divorce and illegitimate and teenage births. On top of that. Britain is aging fast with those over 65 soon set to outnumber the young....
...Almost 1/2 of all men were overweight, with another 21 % obese (Remeber Justin Langer's Barmy Army quote), a third of women were overweight and nearly a quarter obese. Only 5 % of Britons were underweight.
In Europe, the English & Welsh were the most likely to have used cocaine, cannabis or amphetamines. 18 % of 16 to 34 year olds had tried cannabis (twice the rate of Holland where it's decriminalised).
A record 24 million anti-depressant pills were taken in 2001 (against 9 million in 1991)
19% of women have a neurotic disorder (only 14% of men).
More HIV infections were diagnosed in 2001 than ever before. Genital chlamydia was the most common sex disease with a record 70,000 cases (twice the 1995 figure). TB has risen by a fifth in 10 years (7,200 cases in 2001).
Britain is the third most expensive European country, with the third highest divorce rate. 40 % of children are born outside of wedlock, and has the highest rate of teenage birth - 2.9% of 15 - 19 year olds each year.
On the positive side, disposable income has doubled in real terms in the last 30 years and people travel abroad 10 times more than in 1971 (to get away from the above, perhaps!!!)"
And people on this site wonder why anyone would want to leave such an enlightened paradise!!

As long as those leaving don't count on the grass being any greener in Australia! The same or very similar concerns exists over here (other than the heavy use of anti-depressants...don't need those here...instead just lie on the beach, chant "no worries mate, she'll be alright", knock back copious quantities of beer and slag off at the government as being the cause of every conceivable problem...)
