Just started working for Perth A/C Contractor as project engineer, and I have to say that I am amazed at what local contractors get away with.
The standard of workmanship, working practices, design and materials (to a degree), is poor at best. I am led to believe this is "normal" here.
This applies to both residential and commercial works.
Be interested to see what others think.

To side track a bit... I read you live in Ellenbrook and the work is in Leederville! How long is that drive??!!

Perhaps you were employed specifically to do something about it. Enquire of your management as to what they want of you in relation to quality assurance on their jobs.

It makes you wonder why they go into so much detail from the TRA, and why they are scrupulous for you to explain exactly what you do bit by bit down to every finer detail. My aunt in Oz is having trouble getting a builder to do her extension, yet over here where my hubby has no work and neither do many of his skilled friends, they'd be fighting for the work.

I remember some 15 years ago being aghast at the building standards around Sydney - it was fascinating looking through the hoardings and seeing what was going into the constructions!

I have hopes that it's better now: I have been looking secondhand at house after house in all price ranges and am quite despondent at the rubbish they call plumbing, electrics etc. Quite unbelieveable! Apparently it is unusual for house buyers here to call for a survey (inspection) before buying and judging by the feeding frenzy of the past ten years no-one would care about the results anyway!

My partner has found it pretty shocking too, he is a plumber and now mainly installs and services heating and cooling systems. He has been put off buying property out here due to the lack of quality and often complete shodiness of workmanship, design and materials as you mention. To think the TRA are so picky too?!
